Overview
This build turns the Gemling Legionnaire’s extra gem-quality ascendancy into a quality-stacking Ice Shot bow character that plays from a fresh level one all the way to tier 15 maps. The Advanced Thaumaturge node grants an additional gem-quality effect, and on Ice Shot that effect is reduced movement-speed penalty while attacking. Stacked high enough it reaches a full 100% reduction, meaning you can simply hold Ice Shot down and move at normal speed the whole time — the usual downside of a channelled-feeling attack is erased entirely.
Because the build leans on gem quality rather than raw weapon DPS early, it is cheap to start: the opening Widowhail bow costs only a few exalts, and the gear progression is laid out act by act so a new character can follow along. Cold is the primary damage, with Frost Bomb and a Snipe combo handling single targets while Ice Shot blankets packs in chilling, freezing projectiles.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- 100% movement-speed-penalty reduction lets you attack and move freely — very smooth to play
- Genuine level-one-to-endgame reroll path with a documented gear list at every stage
- Cheap entry (a few exalts for the starting bow) with strong clear from early acts
- Frost Bomb → freeze → Snipe combo one-shots most campaign and map bosses
- Scales hard into the endgame through gem-quality stacking on a Doctor’s Darkness body
Cons
- Endgame quality stacking gets expensive (Paragon-instilled amulet, multi-divine bow upgrades)
- Defences are thin until you layer in evasion gear and resistances
- Requires several act-by-act gear and weapon swaps to keep up with the leveling curve
- Reaching the full quality breakpoints needs specific items (Fox idols, Rune of the Blossom, Descration)
Key Skills
- Ice Shot — main clear and damage skill; quality grants the movement-penalty reduction that defines the build
- Snipe — single-target finisher used after a freeze for boss kills
- Frost Bomb — sets up freezes and exposes bosses so Snipe one-shots them
- Lightning Arrow / Lightning Rod — early-act clearing combo before the Ice Shot swap at level 31
- Herald of Ice — chains pack clears via shatter explosions
Gear & Anointments
The weapon path runs from a Widowhail with high bonus rolls, to a Splinter Heart bow at level 16, into a rune-forged version by level 40, and finally any ~500 DPS rare bow in the endgame. Supporting uniques include Crown of the Victor (early plus-skill), Kadira’s Gambit once you hit level 66, and a Doctor’s Darkness body for the late-game quality stack. Jewels like Prism of Belief (+2 Ice Shot) and Heart of the Well round out the damage. Anointment specifics should be confirmed against the source video.
Endgame Notes
Level through low-tier maps until 65+ to dodge the experience penalty, then climb tier brackets as your waystone level rises. Abyss tablets are called out as some of the best leveling experience from 79 up. At level 62 the build pivots into full quality stacking with a high-quality augmented body armour, Fox idols, and a Paragon-instilled amulet.
