Overview

This is the fully-built version of the Spirit Walker “zookeeper” — a companion build that runs eight different companion types at once instead of specialising into one. The unique spear that allows it removes the normal one-companion cap for companions of differing types, so the only real limit becomes spirit reservation. Everything else in the build exists to feed that roster.

The damage carrier is a captured ape companion. On its own it has a 25% base critical chance; with a 300% increased critical chance modifier rolled on the capture it crits on effectively every hit, which is the single non-negotiable requirement of the build. The rest of the zoo is support staff: one companion supplies an attack and cast speed aura, one a flat physical damage aura, one a periodic invulnerability window, and the wolf pack feeds defensive procs on death.

What makes the numbers scale is stacking multipliers that most players treat as filler. A support that grants 7% more damage per distinct minion type is socketed into nearly every companion, so eight different types means roughly 56% more damage on each of them. Idols are slotted into every gear piece for 10% increased companion damage each, and 60% of the character’s own spear DPS is passed through to the companions via the ascendancy — which is why a minion build wants a 750 DPS rare spear.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Very high ceiling: the ape crits on every hit once the capture modifier is right
  • Defensively layered without gearing for it — periodic invulnerability, deflection scaling off companion count, and damage redirection supports
  • Idol stacking turns even worthless idols into a flat 10% damage each, so gearing is forgiving once the sockets exist
  • Map clear is genuinely good once the melee-splash belt is online

Cons

  • Expensive. The core unique spear, a 750 DPS rare spear, and the melee splash + reservation belt (~60 divine) are all gates
  • The entire build fails without a lucky ape capture rolling 300% increased critical chance
  • Idols carry an elemental resistance penalty per non-idol slot, so resistances need extra gear investment
  • Damage redirection supports must be kept off the damage carriers, which makes gem placement fiddly

Key Skills

  • Captured Ape companion — the damage carrier; needs the extra-critical capture modifier to function
  • Wolf pack — eight bodies that feed on-death defensive procs; paired with the life-recovery-on-minion-damage support
  • Spirit Vessel (chest) — a shape-shifter companion that adopts whichever shapeshift gem is socketed, run with barrage and devour for power charges and ranged clear
  • Wild Protector (ascendancy) — wide area damage, used as the second clearer and given damage redirection duty
  • Sniper’s Mark — raises the ape’s critical damage bonus; since every hit crits, this is close to a flat damage multiplier

Gear & Anointments

The unique spear that lifts the companion-type cap is the core of the build and cannot be substituted. Alongside it the creator runs a rare spear pushed as high as possible on physical DPS — around 750 — because the ascendancy passes 60% of weapon DPS to companions. A 400 DPS weapon works while you save; the price curve is steep, with 500 DPS around 60 exalted and 750 DPS well past 20 divine.

The chest grants an additional companion and converts a portion of incoming damage to the companions, plus deflection scaling off companion count. The belt is the expensive quality-of-life pick: melee splash for all companions plus reservation, which the creator prices near 60 divine, and which effectively gifts every melee companion a free support gem. The budget substitute is the reservation-doubling unique belt used in the creator’s earlier videos.

Jewellery leans on double rarity rings that also patch the build’s severe attribute shortfall, an amulet with rarity, life and +3 minion levels, and a reservation rune in the helmet so more companions fit. Idols go in every slot that accepts one.

On the passive tree: the idolatry keystone, the point that enables boss capture (which grants the Wild Protector companion), the weapon-DPS-to-companion node, heavy evasion investment (73% total), companion speed and area nodes, deflection clusters, and a Time-Lost jewel positioned for critical damage bonus.

Endgame Notes

The creator’s map clear complaint is solved specifically by the splash belt — before it, melee splash had to be socketed manually into nearly every companion, costing a damage support each. Deflection is worth understanding before relying on it: a successful deflect mitigates rather than negates, so a 49% deflect rating still lets roughly half the hit through.
