Overview
This off-meta Spirit Walker takes Freezing Shards — the spell that comes with Gelid Staves — and turns it into a shotgun. The skill already fires six projectiles that can all strike the same target, so every extra projectile is a direct multiplier on single-target damage. The Spirit Walker’s Primal Bounty is the engine: after building Owl Feather stacks, a dodge roll empowers the next cast with six additional projectiles and a large chunk of projectile speed, and the Maka’s Gift node makes that empowerment much stronger.
On top of Primal Bounty, the build layers Mana Tempest (projectiles split to extra targets), Breach Lord’s Amalgam (every projectile returns for a second hit) and Flame Wall with a consumed Lightning Infusion to add fire and lightning to each shard. A long-cooldown burst setup on weapon set one handles bosses, while weapon set two runs a second Freezing Shards tuned for clearing. Because a Gelid Staff is usable from very early on, the skill carries the campaign comfortably and scales into T16 maps and pinnacle one-shots.
Defensively the character sits around 1,500 life and 6,000 energy shield with capped resistances, backed by the Wild Protector bear. With the hidden Sacred Unity node the bear takes a share of incoming damage, so it is built purely as a tank.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Huge burst: a single empowered cast can delete most bosses
- Usable from the very start of the campaign, making it a viable league starter
- The bear companion soaks damage, so deaths are rare
- Weapon-set split gives a dedicated boss setup and a dedicated mapping setup
Cons
- Freezing Shards currently ignores several “additional projectile” modifiers, which is a notable power loss
- Boss hitboxes are inconsistent — many shards can fly past a large boss unless you are inside its hitbox
- The phase-into-the-boss technique with Ghost March takes practice
- Mana Tempest drains mana quickly and needs sustain support
Key Skills
- Freezing Shards — main spell; one copy for burst bossing, one for clearing
- Primal Bounty — Spirit Walker empowerment that adds six projectiles and projectile speed after a dodge roll
- Mana Tempest — buff that adds lightning damage and splits projectiles
- Flame Wall — adds fire damage (and lightning via infusion) to shards passing through it
- Wild Protector — the tanking bear minion
Gear & Anointments
The staff is the core item: aim for high levels to cold skills, spell damage, critical chance and damage, and cast speed, and always add quality, since quality grants Freezing Shards an extra projectile.
- Ghost March boots — dodge through enemies so you can stand inside a boss’s hitbox and land every shard
- Gloves with marksman-style modifiers (projectile skill levels, projectile speed and damage) are a strong chase upgrade
- Rings and amulet: cast speed, projectile skill levels, resistances
- Wellspring anoint for mana recovery and cast speed, ideally paired with Lavianga’s Spirits
- Rakiata’s Flow is a big upgrade; without it, Blasphemy with Elemental Weakness plus a Frost Bomb for exposure is a good substitute
- Oloth’s Conviction (optional, expensive) lets the next empowered skill be used two extra times
The passive tree starts from the north via a Split Personality jewel and focuses almost entirely on energy shield and critical strike, with a From Nothing diamond reaching Close Confines for guaranteed pierce near the boss so returning projectiles hit again.
Endgame Notes
The showcase runs T16 maps with an Overseer tablet and Abyss tablets. The build performs well now and could climb much higher if the projectile-modifier interactions with Freezing Shards are fixed.
