Overview

This Flame Blast Gemling Legionnaire is a chaos-inoculation ignite build that pairs enormous energy shield with one of the highest ignite multipliers available this patch. The alternate quality on Flame Blast grants more magnitude of ignite per stage — around 620% more at full channel — so a single ten-stage Flame Blast lays down a colossal ignite, and the rest of the build is about spreading and sustaining that ignite across the screen.

The build runs on the Gemling Legionnaire’s Advanced Thaumaturgy quality-stacking node for raw damage, plus the ascendancy’s support-gem balancing mechanic for skill speed and reduced costs. Clear comes from Oil Grenade: you channel one Flame Blast to ignite, then spam Oil Grenade to propagate that ignite across the map, enabled by a Crackling Leap unique ring that spreads ignite to enemies within 1.5m. The creator calls it one of the strongest builds they’ve ever played in PoE2 — it melts pinnacle bosses, juiced maps and the hardest Simulacrum waves while face-tanking most of the game.

It is effectively a one-button mapper once set up, but it carries a strict rule and a performance cost that map it firmly into the endgame bracket.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Insane single-target and clear from the 620%+ ignite magnitude multiplier
  • Genuinely tanky — a CI build sitting on record-high energy shield, face-tanks most content
  • Near one-button clear: one Flame Blast, then spam Oil Grenade across the whole map
  • Scales into pinnacle bosses, juiced maps and deep Simulacrum equally well

Cons

  • Hard rule: you cannot have ANY other source of fire damage on your gear or the Oil Grenade clear tech bricks
  • Heavy frame drops when stacking oil ground in one place; weak PCs may struggle
  • The ignite loop breaks if an enemy ignites your oil ground — you must recast the whole combo
  • Requires the Crackling Leap ring (or Loreweave) and a strong ES gear base

Key Skills

  • Flame Blast — the core; channel to 10 stages for the big ignite, alt quality drives the ignite magnitude
  • Oil Grenade — the clear engine; spreads and refreshes the ignite across the screen
  • Charge Regulation — converts a single endurance charge into 90% more energy shield and frenzy charges into skill speed
  • Elemental Weakness (curse ground) — paired with Heightened Curse for extra damage

Gear & Anointments

Weapon is a Redemption that grants explosive charges from grenade use plus cooldown recovery, alongside a high +fire/+spell-level sceptre (the creator runs +7 to fire spell skills, +1 all spell, plus a rune for nine extra levels). The mandatory unique is the Crackling Leap ring for the 1.5m ignite spread. A Darkness and Dread belt holds socketed idols for near curse immunity. Everything else is rare gear stacked purely for maximum energy shield and resistances — no crit, no attack speed. Ascendancy takes Essence of Virtue (Virtuous Barrier) for ES and Advanced Traumatology for the damage. Specific item rolls should be confirmed against the source video.

Endgame Notes

The Split Personality jewel lets the tree path into the sorcerer start for ignite scaling without connecting to the mercenary origin. A Megalomaniac (Fabled Stag) extends charge duration to ~21 seconds for reliable endurance/frenzy uptime. The creator recommends it specifically for late game, endgame and farming, noting a Mageblood pushes clear speed even higher.
