Overview
This build turns Ice Shot into a high-end crit-cold bow engine on the Ranger, taking the Deadeye ascendancy for extra projectiles and clear. Physical bow damage is converted to cold and amplified through heavy critical-strike scaling, so a single Ice Shot freezes packs, spreads across the screen, and chains into Herald of Ice explosions until everything is gone before it can reach you.
The identity is a fast mapper that still has real boss damage. Mapping is a simple shoot-and-move loop, while bossing is solved with a Tornado Shot trick: you place Tornado Shot between yourself and the target, stand close, and fire Ice Shot through it so the projectiles shotgun and overlap for huge single-target hits. The result is a build that starts simple but scales hard with investment into expensive endgame pushing.
Defensively it runs an evasion / energy-shield hybrid leaning on Ghost Dance, which recovers a large chunk of energy shield whenever you are hit, making the build surprisingly tanky for a glass-feeling bow archer.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Outstanding screen-wide clear from Ice Shot freeze spread plus Herald of Ice explosions
- Strong single-target via the Tornado Shot shotgun technique
- Constant freezes for both offence and crowd control
- Ghost Dance energy-shield recovery makes it surprisingly tanky
- Scales smoothly from early maps into pinnacle content
Cons
- Not pitched as a league starter — it wants investment to shine
- Best damage needs expensive crit gear and quiver upgrades
- Bossing requires manual Tornado Shot placement and mark upkeep
- Crit dependency means damage relies on a well-rolled bow
Key Skills
- Ice Shot — main skill (Ricochet, Elemental Armament, Fork, Garuthan’s Resolve, Rakhiata’s Flow); carries clear and, through Tornado Shot, single target
- Mirage Archer (Ice Shot) — fires extra Ice Shots to boost both clear and boss uptime
- Herald of Ice — armor-explosion tech (Magnified Area, Cold Penetration, Unnatural Strength, Armor Explosion, Urku’s Melting) that drives the chain-reaction clear
- Tornado Shot — the bossing tool; Ice Shot is fired through it to shotgun projectiles onto the target
- Freezing Mark / Wind Dancer / Ghost Dance — mark suite for bosses, plus evasion utility and energy-shield recovery
Gear & Anointments
The bow is the most important piece: prioritise physical damage, added physical or cold damage, high critical chance, attack speed, and ideally projectile levels or crit damage, since base crit is what the whole build scales from. For the quiver, Hyrri’s Quiver is excellent for mapping while a Visceral Quiver pushes pinnacle bossing damage. Hyrri’s Ire provides massive evasion, cold damage, and freeze duration as the body armour, with Beast Fur Skin, Subterfuge Mask, and Spectral Ward supporting the evasion / energy-shield defence. The Fall of the Axe charm covers slow immunity and onslaught. Key passive notables include Feathered Fletching, Stand and Deliver, Tenacity, and crit nodes such as Throatseeker and Careful Assassin.
Endgame Notes
The build targets endgame directly: maps are cleared by spamming Ice Shot and letting Mirage Archer and Herald of Ice finish the screen, while bosses are handled by marking the target, placing Tornado Shot, standing close, and firing Ice Shots through it for overlapping damage. It is described as handling pinnacle content and dangerous maps, with survivability coming from the evasion plus Ghost Dance energy-shield recovery, and every crit/quiver upgrade scaling both clear and single target.
