Overview
This build recreates the classic Death’s Oath “death aura” fantasy in Path of Exile 2 around the new 0.5 unique staff Raven’s Flight. The staff grants a minion-scaled, chaos damage-over-time aura that constantly burns everything around you, so the core gameplay is simply running through packs while the screen melts. Because the aura’s damage is both minion-based and damage-over-time, it sidesteps on-hit and “extra damage” scaling and instead leans entirely on minion damage and spirit investment.
The staff also comes with a hit-based command skill, which the build uses as its single-target tool against bosses and tanky rares. Pairing the always-on aura with a proper explosion engine is what makes the build feel good, and that is where the Witchhunter ascendancy shines: its on-kill explosions are unconditional, can chain react, and double their trigger chance against demons and the undead.
The result is a relaxed, mostly-passive playstyle the creator describes as soothing — you walk, things explode, and you only tap buttons for tough targets. It is a “for the soul” build rather than a top-tier speed-farmer, but it is genuinely fun and reasonably tanky.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Near-zero-button mapping — the aura clears packs while you move
- Witchhunter explosions chain hard and double up in demon/undead-heavy content like Breach and Abyss
- Solid layered defense via Sorcery Ward plus evasion and blind
- The command skill gives respectable up-front single-target, which minion/DoT builds usually lack
- Plays comfortably; you are not dying to every stray hit
Cons
- Damage is hard and expensive to scale — poor currency-to-DPS ratio at the high end
- Not suited to 200% delirium maps or fastest-clear farming
- Boss single-target ramps slowly because the command skill needs ~10 stacks to fire
- Gear-gated by several uniques plus an expensive +4 minion-skills amulet
Key Skills
- Raven’s Flight (death aura) — the always-on minion chaos DoT that clears maps
- Command skill — hit-based single-target burst for bosses and rares
- Witchhunter on-kill explosions — the chain-reaction clear engine (doubled vs demons/undead)
- Offering — boss-fight DPS cooldown
- Archon / Unholy Might buff — occasional tap for extra explosion power and clear
Gear & Anointments
The build is staff-based around Raven’s Flight and stacks several uniques: gloves that let your explosions trigger from minion/ally kills, the Vestige of Darkness helmet (periodic damaging monster + blind), and a Sorcery Ward unique body armour. Defensively it runs ~2,000 life, ~4,000 Sorcery Ward and converts unused mana into extra life via a keystone, backed by evasion. Rings and boots are simple rares for life and resistances (resistances matter a lot given the unique-heavy setup), and a Breach-minion belt adds damage and AoE. The headline purchase is an amulet with spirit and +4 to all minion skills — a +2 version is the budget fallback. A unique jewel saves a large number of travel points on the passive tree. Specific item names should be confirmed against the source video’s build link.
Endgame Notes
The build excels in Breach and Expedition (the latter buffed and more profitable in the latest patch) thanks to the doubled explosion chance against undead and demons, and its defenses hold up across most maps. It is explicitly not a 200%-delirium build, and bossing is functional but slow. A Witchhunter weapon-swap node opens the door to a dedicated boss skill for players who want to push single-target further.
