Overview
This is a dedicated leveling guide for the Ice Shot / Snipe Deadeye, walking the build from level 1 all the way through the campaign and into the interlude where it hands off to a separate endgame guide. The plan is simple in concept but staged carefully: Ice Shot does not unlock until level 31, so the first three acts are played as a Lightning Arrow + Lightning Rod setup with a single targeted swap at level 24, then the cold conversion comes online in early Act 3.
The identity of the build is freeze-snipe-and-clear. Lightning Rod handles single target while the bow is still cheap, then Snipe replaces it as the primary boss button once Act 2 gear is invested in. Freezing Mark + Freezing Salvo are the freeze enablers before Ice Shot is unlocked, and Hail (from Ice-Tipped Arrows) plus Frost Bomb exposure carry the early acts. The whole guide is built around one principle: pay attention to bow upgrades at level 16, 33, and 46 — a good base with flat physical damage roughly doubles your DPS at each tier.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Genuinely smooth campaign for a fresh league — Deadeye boss damage scales hard from Act 1
- Freeze-lock turns most campaign bosses into snipe practice targets
- Weapon swap (Set 2 = Freezing Mark) is taught step-by-step at level 31
- Clear gear shopping list — flat damage to attacks on every slot, bow base priority tiers explicitly named
- Big itemization moments are signposted (Refined Arms guaranteed white drop in Red Veil, Cemetery quest regal, vendor reset trick)
Cons
- Requires a level 24 skill swap and another at level 31 — not pure one-button leveling
- Snipe’s hold-and-release timing has a learning curve in the first few maps
- Damage is heavily bow-dependent, so an unlucky vendor reset run can stall pacing
- Three discrete bow upgrades to chase (level 11 magic Warden, level 16 invested Recurve, level 33 Cultist/Dual String, level 46 Artillery)
Key Skills
- Snipe — the boss-killer once swapped in at level 24, scales hardest with bow quality
- Ice Shot — main clear from level 31 onward, converts to cold and pairs with Hail
- Lightning Arrow / Lightning Rod — pre-31 clear and single target combo
- Freezing Salvo / Freezing Mark — freeze enablement for boss windows, mark gets its own weapon set
- Frost Bomb — exposure (-25% cold resist), useful until level 25 monsters out-scale it
- Pounce (optional) — wyvern-form movement skill from an offhand talisman for travel skips
Gear & Anointments
Throughout the campaign, flat damage to attacks is the priority stat — rings, gloves, quiver, and especially the bow. Bow upgrades happen at four key moments: a magic Warden Bow at level 11 (low investment, just transmute-aug), a fully invested Recurve at level 16 with regal + triple exalt, a Cultist or Dual String bow at level 33 (wait for item-level 33 so the next affix tier is unlocked), and an Artillery Bow at level 46. At each upgrade tier the goal is the same: chase a percent-physical prefix, then commit two artificer’s orbs, two runes (lesser glacial or lesser storm), and 20% quality.
For armour pieces, just stack life, resists, and evasion as they roll. Movement speed boots are mandatory. Specific uniques aren’t called out in this leveling guide — that’s reserved for the endgame guide.
