Overview

This is the 0.5 endgame update to Scorpius’ Ice Strike Shattering Monk, an evolution of his earlier “Spin to Win” Quarterstaff build. Instead of Whirling Assault, the core of this version is a rapid Ice Strike and Shattering Palm combo that freezes targets and shatters them for chained explosions. The playstyle is described as machine-gun melee: alternating Shattering Palm to dash in and Ice Strike to lock down packs and bosses, while Midnight Zenith (granted automatically by Eventide Pedals) scatters icy zones that amplify damage on the ground.

Damage scales primarily through cold and freeze, layered with physical armour-breaking and a lightning-based power charge generation loop. Power charges are produced through a Hollow Focus trigger chain (Living Lightning into Culmination into A-list Chimes) and spent through Charged Staff for burst. The version showcased runs Chaos Inoculation with nearly 5K energy shield and Shavronne’s, though the author stresses CI and Shavronne’s are optional flavour for ritual farming rather than build requirements.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Extremely fast, fluid melee rotation that feels like a machine gun against both packs and bosses.
  • Strong freeze and shatter loop that converts crowd control directly into damage and clears.
  • Deep single-target tooling via Tempest Bell, Hand of Chayula and Charged Staff for pinnacle fights.
  • Flexible aura suite (Herald of Ice, Wind Dancer, Herald of Thunder, Ghost Dance) lets you dial defense versus damage per content.
  • Built-in armour-break synergy (Herald of Ice plus Breach Lord’s Rift) multiplies physical and cold damage.

Cons

  • High complexity: many trigger gems, an exact support-gem order, and several interacting auras to manage.
  • Gear-hungry endgame — a high-end Sinister core staff, Eventide Pedals, and a Perfect Jeweller’s Orb are pushed as ideal.
  • Hand of Chayula can misfire and dash into your own bells instead of the boss.
  • Shavronne’s variant only works with an instant-recovery flask, a strict requirement.

Key Skills

  • Ice Strike — primary attack and freeze engine; very fast, alternated with Shattering Palm.
  • Shattering Palm — gap-closer that dashes into targets for heavy burst; the other half of the core combo.
  • Charged Staff — burst layer fueled by power charges generated through Hollow Focus.
  • Tempest Bell — dedicated single-target tool for bosses and tough rares in delirious or Abyss content.
  • Midnight Zenith — automatic skill from Eventide Pedals that drops icy zones for extra damage and shatters.

Gear & Anointments

The centerpiece is Eventide Pedals, which grant Midnight Zenith and can be upgraded with a Perfect Jeweller’s Orb to reach five support slots, plus they offer critical hit, intelligence and +2 to cold skill levels. Scorpius anoints them with Overwhelming Strike. The weapon of choice is a high-end Sinister core staff (around 4.8% crit, physical, fire, cold, attack speed, +4 to attack skills), with the Duality unique staff cited as a budget alternative. Body slots favor a hybrid energy-shield base with recharge and capped resistances; self-crafted gloves add bleed-on-hit, crit damage and attack speed for Onslaught. The CI variant uses Shavronne’s (requires an instant-recovery flask); Ginormity or Headhunter work fine otherwise. Rings should target triple-flat damage or triple-resistance. Specific exact item rolls should be confirmed against the source video.

Endgame Notes

Ascendancy is Invoker, taking the first Stone Fist for gloves and progressing toward Runic Meridians for rune-slot utility (lightning resistance, ES recharge, curse reduction, ailment magnitude, movement speed). The passive tree takes the left-side melding/dampening-shield route over Patient Barrier for stun, element threshold and recharge, with three jewels doing heavy lifting: a Time-Lost radius for crit/ES notables, a Metamorphosis with strong attack notables (Staggering Palm, Wild Storm, Deadly Force), and a Heart of the Well diamond for extra cold and lightning. The boss rotation is Shattering / Ice Strike repeated, dropping a Tempest Bell when available.
