Overview

This Acolyte of Chayula build turns Ball Lightning into a boss-melting ignite engine. Each cast consumes a Fire Infusion, which adds fire damage to the projectile and leaves Ignited Ground behind it. The ground itself is weaker than the famous Flame Blast setups, but Ball Lightning is not a channelled spell, so it can be paired with Wrathpith Globe and fed by a huge life pool. Stacking maximum life is the whole scaling plan: the more life you have, the harder every ignite hits.

The life stacking comes with real costs, and the Acolyte is the class that pays them off. Kaom’s Heart disables spirit, but the new Absent amulet bases still let one spirit skill run, and the Acolyte’s Darkness layer gives a large absorption barrier with the same no-spirit downside. Wrathpith Globe adds 6% of maximum life to every spell cost, which is covered by Chayula’s remnants: each one leeches a flat 40% of maximum life over one second, solving both life and mana sustain.

The Blackflame Ring and Zoof’s Pyre support let chaos damage feed the ignite, so enemies take chaos damage that bypasses much of their resistance and Withered pushes damage up further. The trade-off is a fake life pool: the build has almost no elemental resistances and takes roughly four times as much elemental damage as a normal character. The source guide frames it as a pinnacle-boss killer with mediocre area coverage, and Ball Lightning only unlocks around level 40, so it is not a league starter.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Very high single-target damage; pinnacle bosses die in seconds once geared
  • Simple rotation: cast Ball Lightning and keep the ignites ticking
  • Remnant leech is one of the strongest life recovery methods in the game
  • Core engine works with modest gear before the expensive upgrades
  • Huge life pool handles physical and chaos hits well

Cons

  • Takes around four times normal elemental damage; vulnerable to freeze and chill
  • Mediocre area coverage, so mapping is slow
  • Needs specific uniques (Wrathpith Globe, Kaom’s Heart, Blackflame Ring) and an Absent amulet
  • Ball Lightning arrives late in the campaign, so you level with a different setup

Key Skills

  • Ball Lightning — main spell; consumes Fire Infusions to create Ignited Ground
  • Living Bomb — generates Fire Infusions, auto-cast via Cast on Elemental Ailment from the amulet
  • Despair — lowers enemy chaos resistance, which the chaos ignite cares about
  • Entangle — cast from the second weapon set with Effigy of Cruelty to apply Critical Weakness
  • Verisium Infusion — starts the engine by replacing any elemental infusion; needs Ward on gear

Gear & Anointments

Rare gear stacks flat life, strength and Body Runes, ideally on exceptional armour bases with extra rune sockets from corruption. At least one piece needs Ward for Verisium Infusion, and Void Flux can turn elemental mods into chaos resistance.

  • Wrathpith Globe — the cornerstone; pick the correct Vaal-cultivated variant
  • Kaom’s Heart — the biggest flat life source; corrupt for more life or a rune socket
  • Blackflame Ring — enables chaos ignite and Withered uptime (only one, two disable ignite)
  • Absent amulet granting Cast on Elemental Ailment; anoint Gem Enthusiast
  • Wand with spell levels (or lightning spell levels) and added fire damage
  • Effigy of Cruelty focus in the second weapon set
  • Blood Magic via Flesh Crucible or a Split Personality path; Against the Darkness jewel near Heartbreaking

Endgame Notes

Pinnacle bosses fall in seconds even with a rare helmet swapped in to cap resistances, which is the recommended fix if elemental deaths become a problem. Pick up remnant pickup radius on the tree so recovery happens without thinking about it, and use the Breach flame choice that boosts life recovery for consistency.
