Overview
This build revives the classic Archmage Arc archetype and rebuilds it for the harder pinnacle content of patch 0.5. Rather than leaning on energy-shield recharge, it converts energy shield into mana through Eldritch Battery, stacks an enormous mana pool, and feeds that pool into Archmage to add a massive chunk of lightning damage to every Arc cast. The result is a caster that chains lightning across the whole screen while taking damage from mana before life, giving it a recovery model that feels far smoother than the recharge-gated versions of old.
The Stormweaver ascendancy ties the package together. Constant Arcane Surge uptime keeps mana regeneration and cast speed high — both of which the mana-stacking engine loves — while Force of Field supplies the damage-taken-from-mana-before-life conversion the defence relies on. In mapping you simply walk forward and cast Arc, letting Scion’s Temper widen the spread into an AoE-style pattern. For bosses you layer in Orb of Storms, Galvanic Field, and a high-risk Mana Tempest burst window.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Arc chains through entire packs for very fast, low-effort mapping
- Strong single-target through layered tools (Orb of Storms, Galvanic Field, Mana Tempest)
- Damage-taken-from-mana-before-life plus huge regeneration makes recovery very comfortable
- Stormweaver’s chill layers (Shaper of Winter, Heavy Snow) slow dangerous bosses
- Scales hard into pinnacle 0.5 content once geared
Cons
- Gear-gated: needs a +5 lightning wand, a full mana-before-life setup, and high spirit to come online
- Mana Tempest can drain your pool instantly if mispressed — punishing to use
- Three systems (mana-before-life threshold, regen, spirit) must all be solved together or it feels weak
- Not a league starter; expects a worked passive tree and desecrated/runed mods
Key Skills
- Arc — main skill, linked with Scion’s Temper, Considered Casting, Insanity, Pinpoint Critical, and Efficiency
- Orb of Storms — stationary single-target lightning source for bosses and tanky rares
- Galvanic Field (wand-granted) — placed single-target damage stack dropped before key enemies
- Mana Tempest — high-risk burst button; only during safe boss windows
- Archmage — the core engine turning the mana pool into added lightning damage
Gear & Anointments
The most important item is a strong galvanic wand with +levels to lightning spell skills (ideally +5), plus mana, cast speed and increased lightning damage; a Rune of the Wisdom adds another level. Body armour carries the damage-taken-from-mana-before-life conversion via its implicit, a desecrated mod, and Rune of the Will Power. The amulet wants +levels, cast speed, mana and enough spirit to run the setup, with Lightning Rod a strong notable. Rings stack flat and increased mana plus regeneration. Mental Perseverance is mandatory somewhere, and Heart of the Veil jewels are especially strong here. Specific rolls should be confirmed against the source video.
Endgame Notes
Built for 0.5’s tougher pinnacle bosses and more dangerous combinations. Once the mana-before-life threshold is fully reached and regeneration is solved, Arc becomes a screen-clearing, boss-deleting, and defensive engine simultaneously — but if any of the three pieces is missing it feels noticeably weaker.
