Overview

This off-meta Shaman build turns the Melting Maelstrom unique mana flask into the main damage source. While the flask is active it casts a Chaos Nova every three seconds, and each Nova’s damage depends on how much mana you spent in that window. So the whole build is about spending huge amounts of mana and getting it back fast through regeneration and recoup.

The flask ends by dealing 25% of your current mana to you as chaos damage, and the build turns that into fuel. The Forsaken Bangle amethyst charm recoups half of the chaos damage it prevents, Hollow Mask’s Wildwood’s Gift drops remnants that refill flask and charm charges, and Corpsewade’s Decompose with Gorge refills the flask from corpses. Nine Skeletal Clerics that cannot deal or take damage keep reviving each other, and Sacrifice lets you consume them, so the engine still runs in boss fights with no adds.

The big warning from the creator is physical: damage scales with how fast you press the flask key, so the build rewards spamming it as fast as possible. They retired it after a week because of wrist strain, and stress that automating flask use with third-party tools breaks the game’s terms of service. Melting Maelstrom needs level 60, so it cannot be used during the campaign, but it comes online immediately at 60.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Online at level 60 with just four key items; reached level 80 fast with nothing else
  • Clears 200% Delirium maps in the creator’s footage
  • Minion engine keeps flasks full even with no corpses around
  • Huge mana recoup (often above 20,000) behind Mind over Matter
  • Warding Potions effectively makes you immune to curses

Cons

  • Requires mashing the flask key constantly; hard on the wrists
  • Cannot be played during the campaign (level 60 flask)
  • Almost no armour, evasion or block; large hits can still one-shot
  • Skeletal Clerics can occasionally all get consumed if they get separated

Key Skills

  • Melting Maelstrom Chaos Nova — main damage, scaled by mana spent
  • Decompose (Corpsewade) — mana spender and flask refill with Gorge, Archmage and cost multipliers
  • Skeletal Cleric — nine invulnerable minions with Brutus’ Brain that feed the corpse engine
  • Wildwood’s Gift (Hollow Mask) — remnants that refill flask and charm charges
  • Blasphemy + Despair — lowers enemy chaos resistance

Gear & Anointments

  • Melting Maelstrom — aim for high duration rolls for more Novas
  • Forsaken Bangle amethyst charm — the recoup source
  • Hollow Mask and Corpsewade boots
  • Rattling Sceptre offhand for spirit and mana; a wand with chance to not destroy corpses
  • Rings: Dream Fragments plus a mana ring (Glowswarm rings can give permanent Guard)
  • Amulet anointed with Magnum Opus to triple the charm effect
  • Belt: Mageblood is used but optional; Darkness Enthroned, a rare utility belt, or Waistgate for two Maelstroms all work
  • Eldritch Battery and Mind over Matter on the tree; Shaman takes Sacred Flow and Wisdom of the Maji

Endgame Notes

The creator ran 200% Delirium maps and irradiated level 82 areas. For pinnacle bosses they also curse with Despair for extra damage, but say it is not necessary.
