Overview
Meteor Bear is a Druid Shaman league starter built around the Bear shapeshift, alternating Maul/Swipe rage-building hits with Furious Slam burst and a constant rain of meteors from Walking Calamity. The build returns to 0.5 largely unchanged — Patch notes only delivered minor trims to Beta’s Vengeance and max rage — which leaves the core fantasy of “swipe, swipe, slam” intact while patch-level upgrades to body runes and bonded mods quietly buff the late-game scaling.
The Shaman ascendancy carries the build through Furious Wellspring (constant rage regen, removing the need for a Warcry spammer), Wisdom of the Magi, and the Reactive Growth damage reduction node. Combined with Talisman bonded mods that stack +10% skill speed per socket, an upgraded Omen scepter delivers ~30% skill speed in the late game — a major responsiveness uplift the build leans on as it grows into endgame mapping.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Self-sustaining rage loop via Shaman’s Furious Wellspring means no clunky Warcry button-mash
- Walking Calamity layers atmospheric meteor AoE on top of strong melee burst
- Defiance of Destiny + armour + life gives a forgiving defensive core that no-shots are rare against
- Talisman bonded mods scale into a major late-game power spike with skill speed + bonded life runes
- Build profile barely changed in 0.5 — guides and gear advice from 0.4 still translate cleanly
Cons
- Got effectively nothing new this patch — no fresh toys for veteran Bear players
- Damage during acts is solid but not in the “twisters / snipe” overkill tier
- Leech is being nerfed at the high end, which trims late-game sustain ceiling
- Best gameplay loop wants Ancestral Cry windows tracked, adding a soft skill ceiling for full DPS
Key Skills
- Maul / Swipe — default attack to generate rage and trigger Walking Calamity activation
- Furious Slam — rage-consuming burst on left click, often the build’s biggest single hit
- Walking Calamity — channel-activated meteor storm providing sustained AoE plus gain-fire damage
- Ancestral Cry — short-window buff that doubles your slams via spectral images and lets every attack count as ancestrally-boosted (huge with Fist of War 3)
- Pounce — applies marks that grant life + mana leech
Gear & Anointments
The build is built around armour-as-mitigation with stacked maximum life, anchored by Defiance of Destiny as the single most important unique — if hits can’t one-shot you, Defiance keeps healing you back to full between blows. A multi-socket Omen scepter with Bonded mods (skill speed, gain physical, +attacks) is the late-game weapon goal. The Lord of the Wilds Talisman keystone is now recommended only after entering early-mid maps, when extra passives unlock the malice crit baseline — early game, run three 100-spirit reservations (Herald of Ash, War Banner, Savage Fury) instead. Soul Core life mods on chest got functionally replaced by buffed life-providing runes (60 base, 20 flat as bonded). Physical-gain mods on gear remain critical: Ancestral Cry converts your base physical to fire, but gain-as-extra-physical bypasses conversion, preserving physical leech sources on rings and gloves.
Endgame Notes
The Bear scales into endgame via Made to Last (notable) + Discard Faith for damage-mitigated recoup, Divine Shield keystone for ES recoup, and the upcoming Ward mechanic which the creator expects to pair well with the build’s defiance/life core. Trading is supported through a Better Trading import bookmark set with weighted-sum searches tuned for the build’s mod priorities. The build is positioned as one of the creator’s all-time favorites; the only reason it’s not their personal pick this league is the lure of trying 0.5’s new toys (Fist of Stone monk, beast-taming).
