Overview
This is a pure grenade league starter for the Gemling Legionnaire. It uses no Explosive Shot detonation and no ammo rotation. You walk, throw grenades and keep moving. Grenades hit hard in the campaign without a great weapon, and they cover every role: damage, stun, exposure and clear. The Gemling ascendancy fits because its nodes feed directly into the gems the build uses.
Early on, Explosive Grenade is the main damage and Flash Grenade stuns weak packs and bosses. Because grenades have a fuse, you throw them where monsters will be and kite through the blast. Reaching level 14 before Geonor unlocks Gas Grenade for a big burst. The boss combo is exposure (Frost Bomb early, Oil Grenade later), then Flash, Gas and Explosive. Mixing grenade types matters because a Demolition node rewards rotating through different grenades.
At level 52 Cluster Grenade changes how the build clears, spreading explosions across the screen. In the endgame Mirage Archer with Cluster Grenade smooths mapping further. A Flameblast variant exists for the endgame, but the creator warns it is heavy on weaker PCs.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Strong from act 1 without needing a good weapon
- A grenade for every situation: damage, stun, exposure and clear
- Gemling gives +2 grenade levels and quality bonuses such as extra Explosive Grenades
- Moves into the atlas without rebuilding the character
Cons
- Fuse timing makes clear feel clunky until Cluster Grenade at level 52
- Five skills on the bar for the full boss rotation
- Frost Bomb falls off without intelligence to level it, forcing a swap to Oil Grenade
- The Flameblast endgame variant is still being tested and can lag weaker PCs
Key Skills
- Explosive Grenade — main damage through the campaign
- Flash Grenade — stun for packs and bosses
- Gas Grenade — poison cloud that bursts when detonated
- Oil Grenade / Frost Bomb — exposure for more elemental damage
- Cluster Grenade — screen-wide clear from level 52
- Herald of Ash, plus Mirage Archer in the endgame
Gear & Anointments
Key Gemling nodes are Motoric Implants (+2 to grenade levels) and the quality-based bonus node (for example two extra Explosive Grenades at 20% quality). Gem-Studded later gives 40% less movement penalty. The creator skips the Cluster Bombs node early because it lengthens fuses, and paths through Repeating Explosives and crossbow damage first. Gear priorities, crossbow breakpoints and campaign regex are in the linked Mobalytics guide. Specific uniques should be confirmed against the source.
