Overview
This Spirit Walker league starter uses twister leveling through the early campaign and then respecs into a companion-focused setup in act three, once enough passive points and ascendancy options are unlocked. The goal is to reach the act three companion swap with a clean tree transition rather than scrambling to swap earlier with too few passes allocated. Twister is the fastest way to push through acts one and two, while the companion identity is the long-term scaling vector.
A notable wrinkle in the plan is the weapon set parry snapshot. Parry applies a 50%-more-attack-damage debuff to enemies, and several weapon set passives scale that debuff magnitude — by snapshotting parry on weapon set two, single-target damage during boss encounters can nearly double without sacrificing the core companion damage tree on weapon set one.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Twister leveling is one of the fastest options for acts one and two
- Companion damage scales with gem level on helmet, amulet, and scepter — cheap upgrades to chase
- Parry weapon-set snapshot effectively doubles single-target damage on bosses
- Companion damage diversion improves effective survivability beyond raw EHP
- Rare beast tame (boar) gives the build a consistent haste aura source
Cons
- Around 20,000 gold is required for the act three respec out of twister into companions
- Life-based defenses can feel thin without supplementing with some hybrid ES barrier
- Weapon swap discipline is required to keep skeletons and pain offering from desumming
- Reservation node planning shifts as the build moves through interludes
Key Skills
- Twister — leveling core through acts one and two
- Companion (rare and unique tame beasts) — primary damage vector after the act three swap
- Parry — weapon set two snapshot for the boss damage debuff
- Pain Offering — attack speed and damage scaling, sacrifices extra skeletons later
- Frost Bomb (or another utility) — kept on weapon set one to force manual swap-back
Gear & Anointments
Leveling priorities are evasion gear with life rolls and capped resistances. The off-hand only needs a buckler plus a matching-spirit scepter on weapon set two to avoid losing skeletons or pain offering on swap. Gem level is the primary stat to chase on helmet, amulet, and scepter — higher gem level scales both companion damage and companion HP. Early uniques to look for include trench timber for plus-two minions before Catha’s Blessing is available. Anointing Gigantic frees up the hulking minions support slot.
Endgame Notes
Later progression looks at Ghost Dance for layered defenses and a hybrid life/ES gear strategy to satiate the small base EHP pool of a life-based character. A second skeleton is added once the Skeletal Cleric becomes available, both for healing and to feed the Muster buff (7% more damage per distinct reviving minion type). Defensive auras may replace some clear-side support gems as the build matures.
