Overview
Flicker Strike lost its free ride in 0.5. The patch capped how much power-charge retention a character can stack, so the old ‘never lose a charge’ loop is gone and the skill now has to earn its uptime. This Gemling Legionnaire version rebuilds the engine around that constraint instead of pretending it does not exist, leaning on Charged Staff for retention, Charge Regulation for scaling, and a Whirling Slash restart button for the moments when the charges run dry.
What makes it worth a look is the price ceiling. There is no Mageblood, no Headhunter, no wall of cultivated uniques — the setup is deliberately assembled from craftable rares plus a Cast on Critical / Profane Ritual amulet trick that skips the usual 100-spirit reservation. The result is a build that starts functioning at a normal gear level rather than waiting for a jackpot drop.
The other half of the rework is defensive. Older Flicker lists went full glass cannon on the theory that nothing survives long enough to hit back; this one swaps the offensive chest for an evasion-and-life body armour and scales Wind Dancer, trading some damage for the ability to survive teleporting into the middle of a pack.

Pros
- Cheap by Flicker standards — no chase uniques required, so it is reachable mid-league
- Charge engine has a real restart path (Whirling Slash) instead of dead time when Flicker drops
- Cast on Critical via the amulet gives trigger damage without eating the spirit budget
- Genuinely tanky for the archetype thanks to evasion/life gear and Wind Dancer layering
- Gemling quality stacking rewards the ascendancy investment directly
Cons
- Not a league starter — the creator recommends a crossbow or Storm Brand until the charge engine is assembled
- Gemling starts mid-tree, so more travel points are spent than a Martial Artist equivalent
- Post-nerf charge management is an active skill, not a passive one
- Screen movement is chaotic by nature; Flicker teleports you into danger you did not choose

Gear & Anointments
Weapon set one carries a Sky Sliver spear; weapon set two is the real damage slot and wants a quarterstaff with physical base, attack speed, crit chance, and added lightning. Armour pieces prioritise evasion rating, life, and resistances — the body armour swap away from the old offensive chest is what pulls the build out of glass-cannon territory. Boots want the chance-not-to-remove-charges roll, rings want physical/fire/lightning damage plus mana recovery (Flicker feels terrible when mana runs dry mid-fight), and The Darkness Enthroned with a good abyss jewel is the belt of choice. Endgame Notes
The creator frames this explicitly as a farming build rather than a showcase one — the design target is sustained mapping without dying every few packs, not a headline DPS number. Bossing works through a mark-first rotation (Hand of Chayula for Sniper’s Mark, then Charged Staff, then Flicker burst) but is not the build’s selling point.
