Overview

This Spirit Walker setup throws out the usual minion-army playbook and invests everything into a single tamed unique boss companion. Rather than juggling a screen of skeletons, the character raises one giant beast — the unique monkey — and turns it into the entire damage engine. Support skeletons still exist, but they are fuel: they raise the value of Master and give Pain Offering something to sacrifice.

The payoff is single-target damage that behaves like a top-tier boss killer while the moment-to-moment gameplay stays unusually relaxed. Maps are cleared by walking through packs and letting the companion catch up and slam; bosses die after a short debuff sequence rather than a long rotation. Scaling comes almost entirely from minion skill levels, companion damage, attack speed, penetration, and the rare modifiers rolled onto the tamed beast itself.

The current iteration reflects several rounds of testing. A Silvenkeeper sceptre gave better army-style clear but the weapon-swap bug made companions vanish, so it was dropped. Cloak-style alternatives lost out to more consistent Pain Offering uptime, and a double-upgraded Tyrant’s Grip now sits as a cheap damage upgrade. Defensively the build leans on Fortress-lab idols, reservation efficiency, Ghost Dance, and evasion plus deflection scaling.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Enormous single-target damage — the tamed monkey chunks boss health bars like they were rare packs
  • Extremely low-effort gameplay: no army micromanagement, no long button rotation
  • Scales hard off cheap, repeatable upgrades (+levels to minion skills on helmet, amulet, sceptre)
  • Rare monster modifiers on the beast give a second, tradeable scaling axis
  • Defensive layer of evasion, deflection and Ghost Dance keeps the player safe while the pet does the killing

Cons

  • Not truly online until Act 3 / the second lab, when Tame Beast and the respec into the companion setup become available
  • Damage is gated behind gem levels — a weak helmet or amulet makes the whole build feel flat
  • Farming the right rare modifier on the beast requires targeted tablet and map farming, which costs time and currency
  • Weapon swaps can bug companions out of existence with certain sceptres
  • Clear speed is comfortable rather than fast — this is not a blast-through-maps build

Key Skills

  • Tame Beast (companion) — the core of the build; supported with Master, Feeding Frenzy, Rage, Rapid Attacks and Minion Mastery
  • Sniper Mark — the main bossing debuff, run with Prolonged Duration, Eternal Mark, Mark for the Dead and Charged Mark
  • Pain Offering — the burst button; sacrifices support skeletons for a large companion damage and speed spike
  • Support skeletons (Cleric / Reaver / Sniper) — not damage, but they feed Master’s multiplier and give Pain Offering targets
  • Ghost Dance + Reputation — the defensive package, giving recovery and a safer window with a damage-taken multiplier

Gear & Anointments

Priority one is plus levels to minion skills — helmet, amulet, sceptre, and eventually the weapon set. A +2 helmet, a +2/+3 amulet and a strong sceptre change how the build feels more than any other upgrade. Tyrant’s Grip is a solid budget weapon once double upgraded; a rare sceptre generally wins for single target while the Silvenkeeper variant clears better but risks the weapon-swap bug.

  • Defensive pieces want life, evasion, deflection, capped elemental resistances and chaos resistance
  • Offensive pieces should be pure minion levels and companion damage
  • Runic Ward is best placed on helmet, boots and gloves — avoid gutting body-armour evasion, which feeds Ghost Dance
  • Jewels and idols want companion damage, minion damage, minion attack speed, minion crit and reservation efficiency
  • Mageblood is optional but gives strong movement speed and evasion if available

For the beast itself, socket tablets with “unique monsters have one additional rare modifier” and run maps such as Rupture or Riverside, where the monkey boss spawns. Map tier does not affect the final beast stats, so lower tiers are the safer farm. The extra-crit modifier is the jackpot — it effectively solves crit chance on its own — with enraged, haste and added elemental damage as strong fallbacks. A gem that rolls badly can be disenchanted back to a blank Tame Beast and rerolled with a cheap backup.

Specific anointments are not called out in the source video; confirm those against the creator’s live build link.

Endgame Notes

Ascendancy order is Vale Protector first — it unlocks the companion playstyle and makes the beast the primary damage source — then Catcher’s Balance, which applies part of the main-hand weapon’s damage to the companion and turns the weapon slot into a real damage lever. Natural Order smooths out the whole companion package for harder content, and the final point pays off once good idols are in place, adding companion damage, reservation efficiency, movement speed and defensive bonuses.

When boss damage stalls, the fix is almost never a smarter rotation. It is more minion skill levels, better companion supports, or better rare modifiers on the beast.
