Overview
Pure fire casters spent several patches out of favour, and 0.5.5 has put them back on the table. This Sorceress setup is less a single-spell build than a full elemental package with fire as its headline: Cast on Critical converts every crit into a Fireball, Arc handles the leftover screen coverage, and Frost Wall plus Frost Bomb provide the control and exposure that hold everything together.
The result is a build that never switches modes. Mapping means staying mobile and letting the trigger chain do the work — crit, Fireball detonations, Arc chaining through whatever survives. Bossing means the same engine with a setup phase in front of it: drop Sigil of Power, apply Elemental Weakness, land Frost Bomb for exposure, then stand in the Sigil while Cast on Critical does the rest. Recovery is handled passively by Life Remnants and Siphon Elements, which matters when the character is triggering spells continuously.
The trade-off is investment. The gear list is unique-heavy and the passive tree has to buy enough critical chance before the triggers feel consistent — an under-crit version of this build stutters instead of exploding.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- One setup for both mapping and bossing; no swapping links or trees between content
- Cast on Critical automates the damage, so the moment-to-moment play is positioning rather than button mashing
- Fire, lightning and cold coverage in one package means very few resistant enemies slow it down
- Life Remnants and Siphon Elements keep resources topped up during long fights
- Very high visual and damage ceiling as crit, cast speed and jewel quality improve
Cons
- Heavily gear-gated: Vertex, Covenant, Snake Pit and a good Voltaic staff are all assumed
- Crit investment is a hard requirement — below the threshold the trigger chain feels inconsistent
- Not a league starter; the build is described as an upgrade target, not a day-one character
- Screen clutter from constant triggers can make telegraphed boss attacks harder to read
Key Skills
- Cast on Critical + Fireball — the core engine; crits become fire explosions, supported for projectile behaviour and cost
- Arc — chaining lightning coverage for spread-out packs, scaled with Pinpoint Critical
- Frost Wall / Frost Bomb — control and exposure, with Frost Bomb reserved for tanky targets and bosses
- Elemental Weakness — the main boss curse, run as cursed ground with extended area
- Sigil of Power — the burst window; stand in it for single-target phases
- Blink — movement, keeping the character out of the melee range the build cannot afford
Gear & Anointments
Main hand is a Voltaic staff, with a Sacred Focus in the second weapon slot to support the caster utility skills. Body armour is The Covenant, which pairs with the life-cost support links; the helmet is The Vertex. Rings are Snake Pit — important because its projectile behaviour is a real part of the clear speed — alongside a Breach ring. Jewels are the scaling lever: multiple sapphire jewels plus a Cards to the Well carry the crit, energy shield and damage numbers as the build matures. Exact rolls and jewel affixes should be confirmed against the source video, since the creator updates the written list weekly.
Ascendancy order runs Fourth Teaching first for the early identity, then Sacred Rituals for sustained casting, then Instruments of Power once the weapon and focus are online, with the ley-line node last.
Endgame Notes
The passive tree priority is critical chance before anything else, then elemental and spell damage, then energy shield and recovery. Weapon set points split cleanly: set one for the core damage and trigger package, set two for the boss tools (Sigil of Power, Frost Bomb, Elemental Weakness) where extra area and curse effect matter more than raw clear.
