Overview

This is a Cast on Critical Comet build for the Sorceress, played on the Stormweaver ascendancy in Path of Exile 2 0.5. Instead of standing still to line up a single big spell, you flood the screen with hits: drop Orb of Storms, spam Spark through the orbs, and let the constant stream of critical strikes trigger Comets on their own. The build auto-targets, freezes, and shocks while the Cast on Critical engine rains Comets down on anything that survives the initial wave.

The engine is self-reinforcing. Spark supplies a high volume of hits, Orb of Storms multiplies those hits across the screen, and every critical feeds the Cast on Critical setup that fires Comets. More hits mean more crits, more crits mean more Comets, so the build actually gets stronger as content gets denser and more dangerous. In easy maps the Spark and Orb of Storms do most of the clearing on their own; against juiced maps, stacked rares, and pinnacle bosses the Comet engine takes over and deletes targets quickly.

Unlike a pure Comet-spam setup, this one scales Spark damage, Orb of Storms damage, and fire-infused Comet damage together, so every part of the kit contributes. The Elemental Equilibrium interaction is central: Orb of Storms builds cold infusions for Spark while Frost Bomb builds fire infusions for the Comet, letting the build cycle cold and fire windows without an extra manual button.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Scales upward with difficulty: more enemies and more hits directly translate into more Comet triggers and higher damage.
  • Strong on both fronts, smooth Spark and Orb of Storms clear for mapping and heavy Comet burst for pinnacle bosses.
  • Constant freeze and shock coverage keeps packs and rares locked down.
  • Auto-targeting Cast on Critical means much of your damage lands without manual aiming during chaotic fights.
  • Redundant elemental scaling (cold, lightning, fire) means gear improvements benefit the whole kit at once.

Cons

  • Setup-heavy: relies on spirit budget, mana sustain, weapon sets, and the Elemental Infusion mechanic all coming together.
  • Leans on specific uniques (Malachai’s Authority gloves, Call of the Brotherhood) to make the crit and cold-conversion plan work.
  • Requires meaningful spirit investment (around 180 total) to run the full reservation package.
  • Boss sequences involve pre-placing several buffs and debuffs, so the rotation is busier than a one-button build.

Key Skills

  • Spark — main spam skill and primary hit generator; feeds both clear and the Cast on Critical trigger.
  • Orb of Storms — dropped in multiples to multiply Spark hits across the screen into a lightning machine.
  • Cast on Critical + Comet — the burst engine; converts the flood of crits into Comets for bosses, tanky rares, and rituals.
  • Frost Bomb — applies exposure and seeds fire infusions via Elemental Equilibrium for the Comet.
  • Elemental Storm — extra fire exposure, ignition, and damage utility.
  • Mana Tempest — pressed before burst windows to amplify damage during the strongest phase.
  • Sigil of Power / Elemental Weakness — pre-placed on bosses to open a large damage window.

Gear & Anointments

The most mandatory item is Malachai’s Authority, which locks your critical damage bonus at a high value. With crit damage fixed, supports and passives that grant crit chance at the cost of crit damage carry no real downside, which makes Pinpoint Critical one of the strongest supports in the build. Call of the Brotherhood is also core, converting lightning into cold so Spark and Orb of Storms scale properly with the cold-infusion plan.

  • Staff — your biggest rare damage slot; look for gain as extra damage, increased spell damage, increased cold damage, +levels to all spell skills, and cast speed (all-spell levels matter because Spark and Orb of Storms are lightning while Comet is cold).
  • Amulet & body armour — key spirit sources; the build wants roughly 180 total spirit to cover Cast on Critical, Mana Remnants, Staff and Elements, and Convalescence.
  • Helmet & body armour — your largest energy shield pieces.
  • Boots — movement speed, resistances, and energy shield.
  • Belt — starts as a resistance fixer, later a high-end slot.
  • Jewels — prioritize maximum energy shield, spell crit chance, cast speed, and useful elemental scaling; a From Nothing jewel with Black Flame Covenant grabs powerful passives (exposure, Storm Breaker, empowering infusions, Secret of the Orb).

Specific top-end uniques and exact affix targets should be confirmed against the source video.

Endgame Notes

For mapping, the loop is simply drop Orb of Storms and spam Spark inside the orbs. For dangerous encounters (rituals, breaches, expedition, scary rare stacks), add Sigil of Power and Mana Tempest before blasting. For bosses, pre-place Sigil of Power and Elemental Weakness before the boss is targetable, use Frost Bomb for exposure, drop Orb of Storms, cast Spark, and let Cast on Critical trigger the Comets; time Mana Tempest to overlap the boss’s burst phase. On the Stormweaver, take Tempest Caller, Strike Twice, Shaper of the Storms, and Storm’s Recollection; Strike Twice and Shaper of the Storms carry the shock and hit scaling, while Storm’s Recollection keeps the mana-heavy remnant package stable in long fights.
