Overview

Ice Shot is one of those skills that does nothing special until the supporting cast is right, and then does everything at once. Built here as a crit-scaled Deadeye, a single shot spreads projectiles across the screen, freezes what it touches, and sets off a chain of Herald of Ice explosions that clear the pack before anything closes the distance.

What lifts it out of pure map-clear territory is the Tornado Shot interaction. Ice Shot is not naturally a strong single-target skill, so the fix is to place Tornado Shot between yourself and the boss, stand close enough to shotgun it, and fire through — multiplying the projectile count landing on the target. That one piece of positioning tech is the difference between a fast mapper and a build that also kills pinnacle bosses.

Defensively it sits on evasion rather than raw life. Ghost Dance recovers a large chunk of energy shield whenever you are hit, Beast Fur Skin pairs with high-evasion body armour, and Subterfuge Mask converts a big energy shield helmet into more evasion. Combined with permanent freeze uptime, the character ends up considerably harder to kill than a bow build usually is.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Screen-wide clear from a single button — Ice Shot plus Herald of Ice explosions handle mapping on their own
  • Real boss damage once the Tornado Shot shotgun technique is learned
  • Constant freeze uptime doubles as a defensive layer
  • High evasion plus Ghost Dance recovery makes it surprisingly tanky for a ranged crit build
  • Every upgrade is felt immediately — better crit, better quiver, more evasion all compound

Cons

  • Boss damage requires standing close to the target to shotgun through Tornado Shot, which is exactly where you do not want to be
  • Bow crit chance is the foundation of the whole scaling plan, and a bow without it makes the build feel flat
  • Quiver choice splits between mapping and bossing, so the ideal setup means owning two
  • Skill setup is long — Mirage Archer, Herald of Ice, Wind Dancer, Tornado Shot, marks and remnants all need configuring

Key Skills

  • Ice Shot — the main skill for both clear and, through Tornado Shot, single target
  • Tornado Shot — placed between you and the boss; Ice Shot fired through it multiplies projectile hits
  • Herald of Ice — the armour-explosion package that turns freezes into chained screen clear
  • Mirage Archer — fires its own Ice Shots, boosting both clear and single-target uptime
  • Freezing Mark / Freezing Salvo — mark utility for mana, armour break, and shock, plus on-demand freeze

Gear & Anointments

The bow carries the build. Crit chance on the bow is the base the entire crit plan multiplies from, so it should not be treated as a secondary stat.

  • Bow — physical damage, added physical or cold damage, high critical chance, attack speed, and ideally projectile levels or critical damage bonus
  • Quiver — Hyrri’s Demise for mapping (the arrow behaviour pairs well with Mirage Archer); a rare visceral quiver with projectile levels, crit chance, crit damage, attack speed and added damage is stronger for pinnacle bosses
  • Body armour — Hyrri’s for the large evasion block, extra cold damage, dexterity, and freeze duration
  • Helmet — a high energy shield piece with crit chance and resistances, since Subterfuge Mask converts that energy shield into evasion
  • Gloves / boots — flat added damage and attack speed on gloves; evasion, energy shield, movement speed and resistances on boots
  • Amulet / rings — spirit, projectile levels, crit chance and crit damage on the amulet; resistances, life, evasion, rarity and flat elemental damage on rings
  • Charms — Fall of the Axe for slow immunity and onslaught

Endgame Notes

Ascendancy order is Gathering Winds, Mirage Deadeye, Projectile Proximity Specialization, then Endless Munitions. Projectile Proximity Specialization is not optional flavour here — it directly rewards the close-range Tornado Shot bossing pattern. Call Shot is the alternative to Endless Munitions if you would rather automate marks than gain the extra projectile. The creator also notes Amazon works as an alternative ascendancy for this skill, covered separately on their channel.
