Overview
This is a Grim Pillars totem Druid documented as a progression rather than a finished list — the creator tracks the same character from day one of the league, through a DPS-ladder placement, to carrying six-player Expedition runs, and publishes both the day-two and day-four setups side by side.
The mechanical core is a quirk of Grim Pillars. The skill normally spends Runic Ward to erupt ice-crystal spears that can be destroyed for a cold explosion, and destroying them ordinarily means chipping them down with your own damage. Socketed into a totem the Runic Ward cost disappears, and a freeze-consuming support on a second skill pops every pillar instantly. The result is a loop of summoning pillars and detonating them on demand. The creator is candid that it is unclear whether this interaction is intended or a bug.
The build’s real teaching point is weapon-set passives. The 24 shared points are specced differently per weapon set: set one takes totem and damage nodes, set two takes cast speed and buff-generation nodes for the freeze-consuming detonator. Swapping between them mid-fight carries buffs from one set into the other, and the creator even exploits an energy shield maximum difference between the two sets to force a shield recharge on every swap — which grants an elemental archon buff worth roughly 25% more elemental spell damage, for free.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Totems do the standing-still work while the character stays mobile and safe behind them
- Oracle’s totem-death delay makes the totems effectively unkillable for six seconds, so they double as bait
- Scales from a modest day-two setup clearing most tier 16 content into a top-of-ladder mana stacker
- Weapon-set swapping generates free damage and cast speed buffs that cost no gear
Cons
- Two distinct builds in one: the endgame mana-stacking version is very high investment
- Mana stacking demands roughly 102% conversion of damage taken to mana before it is safe, assembled across amulet, cloak, rune and tree
- Oracle’s forced-critical node needs around 40% critical chance before it pulls its weight
- Several key interactions sit in bug-or-feature territory and could be patched
Key Skills
- Grim Pillars — socketed into a totem so the Runic Ward cost is skipped; the pillars are the damage
- Totem setup (weapon set 1) — main damage, specced with totem and damage passives
- Freeze-consuming detonator (weapon set 2) — consumes the freeze to destroy pillars instantly and generates arcane-speed style buffs on crit
- Elemental archon buff — triggered by forcing an energy shield recharge on weapon swap, worth about 25% more elemental spell damage
Gear & Anointments
Two distinct setups. The day-two Oracle version is cheap and clears most tier 16 content on its own; the creator funded everything else from it. It leans on the forced-critical ascendancy node paired with a tree node that grants arcane speed on critical hit, giving near-permanent uptime.
The day-four version converts to Shaman and mana stacking, and is openly described as high capital. The prerequisites are a minimum of roughly 4,000 mana on the planner and about 102% of damage taken converted to mana — 16% from a crafted amulet with fixed spirit and added skill levels, 55% from a relatively cheap resistance cloak, 15% from a rune that redirects damage to mana, and 16% from the passive tree. The weapon is the unique that triples socketed rune effects, which pairs with Shaman’s rune-and-idol bonus effect: a rune granting 90 maximum mana becomes 270, and a 5% maximum mana bonded effect becomes 15%. The creator measures roughly double the mana with it equipped, plus nine spell levels.
The low-life package uses the support that drops the character to low life, unlocking a tree notable that amplifies critical damage bonus while low, and enabling a level 3 execution support. The keystone jewel is a cheaper alternative to the usual conduit jewel, which the creator declined to buy at nearly 700 divine.
Endgame Notes
The full setup carried six-player Expedition with no difficulty. The creator explicitly stops short of the conduit-jewel ceiling, noting that the marginal damage is not worth the price this league. Exact item names beyond the described mechanics are best confirmed against the creator’s published spreadsheet and planner, both linked from the source video.
