Overview
This is a Day 1 league-start progress update for a crossbow Grenade build on the Huntress, played by Forefinger404 during the opening of Patch 0.5. Rather than the expected setup, the build runs the Spirit Walker ascendancy (chosen over Amazon) and leans on recovery scaling to stay alive while pushing into early maps. The author reports that grenades performed well overall, with map clear feeling noticeably stronger than in pre-league practice runs thanks to the ascendancy’s clearing tool and extra Herald of Thunder procs. The core fantasy is lobbing layered grenades into packs, stacking elemental ailments, and recovering huge amounts of life per second so that the only real threat is getting one-shot.
The notes below reflect an in-progress character: several links and points are unfinished, and the author plans a follow-up update plus a Path of Building export. Some interactions (such as a damage buff tied to active life flasks) were still being tested and may not work as displayed on the tooltip.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Strong, comfortable map clear once the ascendancy clearing skill and Herald of Thunder are online.
- Heavy life-recovery scaling (~1.3k per second cited) that keeps the character topped off with almost no investment.
- Cheap to start: the key recovery unique is described as an affordable leveling item, and grenades care mostly about the weapon rather than the rest of the gear.
- Flexible gear requirements — life, resistances, and rarity carry most slots.
Cons
- Vulnerable to one-shots on a low budget; the author dies almost exclusively to single large hits rather than sustained damage.
- Armour value is low, so it provides little mitigation against big hits without further investment.
- Cluster-grenade aiming can be finicky; certain projectile-speed nodes actually scatter the grenades.
- Not fully penetration-capped yet, and some endgame interactions/encounters were buggy at launch.
Key Skills
- Explosive Grenade — a primary single-target and pack tool, supported with Multishot and a siege support to retain area while adding damage against solo bosses, plus Short Fuse.
- Blast / Cluster Grenades — used with Multishot and Adhesive Grenades; the author dives close to bosses to land the clusters for burst damage.
- Flash Grenade — Multishot plus Lightning Attunement, primarily a clear enabler that feeds Herald of Thunder.
- Oil Grenade — paired with Encroaching Ground and Potent Exposure to apply exposure ground.
- Herald of Thunder — a key clear amplifier, boosted by shock and lightning attunement; supported by Elemental Focus and similar.
Gear & Anointments
Gear priorities are simple: a strong crossbow is the backbone of the damage, with the author using a new crossbow unique whose very high flat damage compensates for fewer suffix rolls, and which can occasionally proc an explosive-rhythm effect to spawn clusters and shred rares. Every other slot just wants life, resistances, and rarity — the author notes that going from 0% to roughly 100% increased rarity produced a large jump in drops. A leveling recovery unique anchors the build’s survivability and is described as very cheap. Jewels supply attack/penetration rolls while working toward elemental penetration. Mind-over-Matter and a larger life/mana pool are flagged as the next survivability step. Specific uniques to be confirmed against the source video.
Endgame Notes
Atlas progression focused on farming Abyss as the primary currency source, with Bridge content as a secondary. The author completed the first citadel, advanced pinnacle progress (including Arbiter of Divinity), and noted several launch-time endgame bugs, including a node that would not unlock after a kill and reports of Abyss failing to function for some players. The character is positioned as map-focused for now, with potential to become very tanky and run content like Delirium once the recovery setup is paired with a larger health pool.
