Overview
Snipe is normally a charge-up bow skill you have to commit to, which is exactly why it rarely survives contact with a league start. This build removes that problem entirely: by stacking attack speed and leaning on Gemling Legionnaire’s extra gem quality, Snipe’s attack time collapses far enough that it behaves like an instant cast. The result is a single skill that handles both pack clear and single target, instead of the usual two-button bow setup.
The engine is a crit bow build built around Quill Rain for its raw attack speed and arrow speed, with all missing damage bought back through flat elemental and physical rolls on rings and quiver. Feathered Fletching converts that arrow speed into bow damage, so the weapon’s low base DPS stops mattering. A Cast on Dodge Frost Wall setup feeds Verglas support, which pays out damage gained as extra cold every time an ice crystal is destroyed — and Gemling’s additional quality pushes the crystals’ life to several hundred percent, making that conversion far larger than it looks on paper.
The pitch here is early-league accessibility. The creator reports clearing T15 maps and deleting map bosses on roughly a single Divine of investment on day one of the event, with Act bosses melting during the campaign as well. It scales further with quality stacking and Time-Lost jewels, but it does not need them to function.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Genuine league-starter viability — around 1 Divine of gear is enough to blast T15 maps
- One skill covers clear and single target once Snipe reaches instant-cast attack speed
- Quill Rain is cheap and gets better through runeforging, ending with an extra fork projectile implicit
- Strong layered defence for a bow build: evasion/ES hybrid, Ghost Dance recovery, and Guard from Decree of Flight boots
- Virtuous Barrier from the first Ascendancy point effectively solves campaign survivability on its own
Cons
- Heavily dependent on hitting Snipe’s perfect-timing window, so it punishes sloppy rhythm
- Needs roughly 185 spirit to run the full setup, forcing spirit rolls on body armour and amulet
- Pinpoint Critical is a crutch early on and drags crit damage down until crit-stacking jewels are affordable
- The strongest anoint (Paragon, for quality) sits at five to six Divines and is out of reach at league start
Key Skills
- Snipe — the entire build; supported by Widow of Opportunity, Verglas, Pinpoint Critical, Fork, and Thassalio’s Rhythm for stacking more-damage on perfect releases
- Tornado Shot — supplementary clear and boss shotgunning with Overabundance and Concentrated Area
- Barrage — burst single-target window, backed by Second Wind and Cooldown Recovery
- Sniper’s Mark — frenzy charge generation and a large boss damage multiplier via Charge Marks
- Frost Wall on Cast on Dodge — feeds Verglas so Snipe gains damage as extra cold; a second self-cast copy keeps uptime while moving between packs
Gear & Anointments
Quill Rain is the anchor and should be runeforged toward its third variant for the extra base physical damage and the fork implicit. The quiver wants increased critical hit chance plus as much flat elemental or physical damage as possible, since the bow supplies almost none. Body armour and helmet are evasion/energy-shield hybrids chosen for spirit and raw ES, with Subterfuge Mask on the tree turning helmet ES into evasion.
- Beacon of Azoth (solar base) — cheap crit amulet whose critical hits ignore monster elemental resistance, plus spirit toward the 185 requirement
- Decree of Flight boots — 30% movement speed, faster dodge roll for more Frost Wall procs, and Guard equal to missing energy shield
- Opportunity ultimate life flask — extends the perfect-timing window and auto-procs every time Snipe hits it
- Anoint — Critical Exploit as the budget pick; Paragon for quality once affordable
Ascendancy order is Essence of Virtue, then Advanced Thaumaturgy for the gem quality that makes instant-cast Snipe possible, then Implants for +2 to Dexterity skills, then Gem Studded.
Endgame Notes
The build was demonstrated clearing T15 maps with admittedly unfinished gear. The scaling path is quality stacking: pushing Frost Wall’s ice crystal life higher through global quality raises Verglas’s damage-gained-as-cold conversion, and swapping a plain Emerald jewel for a Time-Lost Emerald with critical hit chance on notables is the main crit upgrade.
