Overview
A league-starter roundup for the 0.5.5 event, where class balance is largely unchanged from the previous league. The video sorts last league’s builds into those that proved themselves and those that turned out to be bait, then closes with a view on which ascendancies actually scale into the endgame versus which stay starter-only.
The core argument: most players start on a safe, scalable build and later respec into something more specialised. Right now only two ascendancies scale really well for attack builds — Gemling Legionnaire (many skills gain strong extra gem quality) and Martial Artist (alternate glove nodes and extra tattoos, plus rare access to added physical or cold damage). For casters, Oracle and Blood Mage are named as the strongest endgame options.
Builds Previewed
- Warrior slam build (Brutus-based): budget-friendly at the cap, with very linear progression where every upgrade is felt. The creator cleared all endgame content on it last league.
- Gemling Legionnaire — Oil Grenade ignite: oil ground spreads ignite across the map; Flame Blast’s gem quality ramps flammability per stage. Gear barely matters beyond a strong second-slot weapon.
- Tornado (wind) build on Gemling Legionnaire: the extra quality on Twister grants attack speed; new rings add elemental ground effects. Expected to stay top tier if not nerfed.
- Companion build: huge single hits from a companion; listed as last league’s biggest discovery, though not the creator’s style.
- Djinn minion build: praised by others as a comfortable SSF starter.
- Chaos DoT Lich: a long-standing leveling classic for any Witch ascendancy.
- Warrior Shield Wall / slams: Smith of Kitava on day one for resistances, respec to Titan by day two or three.
- Martial Artist via Hollow Form: spectral clones repeat attacks; respecs well into other attacks later.
- Ballista Totems: Gemling Legionnaire for damage or Tactician for totem nodes; appealing if the reworked Trial of Chaos proves lucrative.
Pros & Cons
