Overview

This Monk build is engineered around the new Even Tide Pedals amulet and the Midnight Zenith skill it grants. Critical hits generate Arctic Petals; enough petals spawn Ice Crystals near your target; and skills that consume Freeze instantly shatter those crystals for big area damage. Wire those pieces together and you get a self-perpetuating cascade — the creator calls it a shatter chain — that ripples through entire packs from a single Shattering Palm.

The whole engine runs on critical strikes. Way of the Stonefist converts your critical damage bonus into base crit, a sinister quarterstaff adds 12% base crit, and Shattering Palm’s quality grants even more crit chance. Herald of Ice and Herald of Thunder, linked with Biting Frost, consume the freeze on your ice crystals to detonate them and make room for the next batch — and because Herald of Ice shatters chilled enemies, the loop refeeds itself. Hollow Focus and Hollow Resonance add ethereal bells whose hits always count as crits, pouring even more petals into the cycle.

It delivers some of the most satisfying clear in the game alongside genuinely excellent single-target, and it can be assembled on a fairly modest budget before min-maxing.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Spectacular shatter-chain clear that cascades across whole packs from one hit
  • Excellent single-target via a Tempest Bell + Shattering Palm crystal loop
  • Frozen bosses can’t move — a strong built-in defensive layer for pinnacle fights
  • Runic Meridians grants five extra rune sockets for easy resistance solving and curse immunity
  • Achievable on a modest budget before refinement

Cons

  • Entirely crit-dependent — if your crit chance is low the whole engine stalls
  • Endgame-focused; the creator has no clean level-1 leveling guide (recommends others’ monk leveling setups)
  • Ice-crystal damage scales from a separate stat pool, so gear choices need care (flat weapon damage doesn’t help crystals)
  • Bossing setup differs from mapping (you deliberately avoid consuming freeze on bosses), adding execution complexity

Key Skills

  • Midnight Zenith (Even Tide Pedals) — converts Arctic Petals into the Ice Crystals that carry most of the damage
  • Shattering Palm — the high-crit opener that covers enemies in ice shards and seeds the chain
  • Herald of Ice / Herald of Thunder + Biting Frost — consume freeze to detonate crystals and sustain the loop while mapping
  • Tempest Bell — the single-target engine; drop three and shatter-loop them with Shattering Palm
  • Whirling Assault / Rend — combo generation and a power-charge-fueled extra-lightning boost on bosses

Gear & Anointments

The weapon is a sinister quarterstaff with added cold/lightning damage, crit chance and crit bonus to power every non-crystal skill. Gloves with Way of the Stonefist are central: +2 to melee skills (converted to quality of all gems for more crit), critical damage bonus converted into base crit, and reduced attribute requirements converted into all attributes. Helmet, body armour and boots stack evasion and energy shield with deflection suffixes, while Runic Meridians’ extra rune sockets handle resistances and, via Crayian’s Rune of Warning plus the Hollow Keeper, near-total curse immunity. Confirm exact item rolls against the creator’s written guide linked under the source video.

Endgame Notes

On bosses you intentionally do not consume freeze — Heavy Frost lets your hits ignore non-negative elemental resistances of frozen enemies, and a permanently frozen boss can’t move. Biting Frost only procs on kills, so it stays dormant during single-target while still driving the shatter chain in maps. A Time-Lost sapphire over the crit/cold cluster is a strong late-game upgrade. The creator considers the build roughly 80% finished, with further min-maxing still on the table.
