Overview

Ron’s bear Druid is a returning 0.4 league-starter pulled forward into 0.5 with the same simple identity: stay in bear form, build rage with Maul, dump it into Furious Slam, and lean on totems whenever a boss needs more attention. The pitch is an all-rounder that grows into AoE-heavy mapping later via Walking Calamity plus Rampage, but the entire video is framed around getting the build comfortable through the campaign without overthinking it.

This page covers Ron’s recommended leveling shell — gem links, support priority, early tree route, and the first three ascendancy nodes — with a short note on where the build evolves once Walking Calamity comes online. The endgame meteor rampage variant is acknowledged but not played out in detail here; the source video and Ron’s written guide are the spot for the full endgame tree and crafting plan.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Two-button leveling loop (Maul to stand up and gain rage, Furious Slam to spend it) makes the campaign low-stress
  • Stays in bear form for almost every fight, which keeps you tanky by default — no awkward weapon-swap micromanagement except for Volcano on bosses
  • Cheap to start: works on white and blue talismans with physical damage rings, no early uniques required
  • Scales naturally into a Walking Calamity plus Rampage endgame variant where you sprint through maps dropping meteors
  • Ron supplies a vendor reject string in his written guide so weapon hunting in town is one paste away

Cons

  • Single-target before Shockwave Totem unlocks is just Furious Slam plus a Volcano dropped on top of the boss — workable but not flashy
  • Fire Attunement on Furious Slam only works if your talisman has no cold or lightning rolls, so weapon-shopping is slightly fussy
  • The endgame transition (Walking Calamity, Wisdom of the Magi, scepter setup) sits outside the leveling guide — you will need the written guide or source video for that step
  • Druidic Champion is the first forced ascendancy node and is admitted to be near-useless for the bear playstyle

Key Skills

  • Maul — bear-form basic attack and rage generator; supported by Rapid Attacks and Rage so the stand-up animation and follow-up land fast
  • Furious Slam — main rage spender; runs Fire Attunement (only if your weapon has no cold or lightning damage) plus Fist of War for the boosted slam
  • Volcano — early single-target option dropped on the second weapon set so it auto-swaps you out of bear form; replaced once Shockwave Totem is available
  • Shockwave Totem — single-target upgrade from skill gem level three onwards; runs Overabundance and Prolonged Duration, and conveniently works without leaving bear form
  • Walking Calamity + Rampage — endgame map-clear loop where running around triggers meteor hits on everything nearby

Gear & Anointments

Leveling is built around a strong physical talisman — Ron specifically recommends spamming his vendor reject string so the in-game vendor surfaces talismans with plus levels to melee skills and increased physical damage. Even a small upgrade from one talisman to another visibly moves DPS on Furious Slam, so this is the single biggest comfort lever during the campaign.

Rings should roll physical damage to attacks. Normal-rarity rings with added physical or added fire damage are listed as fine fillers, and rolling jewelry from Fiend in town with leftover gold is the suggested gamble once you have currency to spare. No specific anointments or uniques are called out for the leveling stretch.

Endgame Notes

Ascendancy order is Druidic Champion (forced) into Furious Wellspring (kills the inherent rage decay and is the single most important node), then Turning of the Seasons for exposure and Reactive Growth for tankiness through the campaign. Late game the build can drop Turning of the Seasons in favor of Wisdom of the Magi, which pairs with a Lord of the Wilds tree path and a rune-loaded scepter for the final mapping setup. On the tree, Ron routes through Harbinger of Disaster and Primal Spirit for damage, then Personal Touch and Bestial Rage (every 10 rage grants 12% increased physical damage plus extra rage on melee hit), and finally Sharpened Claw, Swift Claw, and Piercing Claw on the way down-left. Resilient Soul is explicitly skipped for now.
