Overview

This is a 0.5 endgame update to the Martial Artist Monk — a quarterstaff bruiser that bonks packs apart with Falling Thunder while a power-charge engine keeps its crit and skill speed pinned at the cap. The headline change is a new charge-generation loop built around Whirling Assault, the Marshall Master ascendancy node, and the Alish Chimes lineage gem: because Marshall Master grants combo from all attack hits, the build constantly builds and expends combo to spew power charges, which in turn fuel Charge Regulation for 25% more crit chance, 20% more defenses, and 25% increased skill speed.

Falling Thunder is the main mapping and bossing skill, hitting in a 360° spread for clear and concentrating into single-target burst against bosses. A second tech doubles its damage outright: the Breach Lord’s Amalgum lineage gem lets the projectiles pierce a target, return, and hit a second time — a huge multiplier the creator calls busted, though it adds a cooldown to watch.

The build leans hard into evasion and energy shield, converts most of its damage to cold via Breath of Alder to constantly proc Herald of Ice, and pins crit cap through layered gear and tree investment.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Self-sustaining power-charge loop drives crit, defenses, and skill speed simultaneously
  • Falling Thunder clears full screens (360° via Nova Projectiles) and deletes bosses with the Breach Lord’s Amalgum double-hit
  • Very tanky for a melee build — ~1k energy shield plus heavy evasion from layered EV/ES gear
  • Curse immunity (Rune of Warding + Hollow Keeper) and chaos immunity (Chaos Inoculation) shut down nasty map mods
  • Easy, low-stress map and boss demos once the charge engine is online

Cons

  • Currency-hungry: the charge tech needs Alish Chimes (~3 div and climbing) and the double-damage Breach Lord’s Amalgum (~6 div), plus heavily self-crafted gear
  • Falling Thunder’s cooldown can be punishing if you over-spam it
  • Button-heavy upkeep — charge staff, tempest spell, mantra, and multiple heralds to juggle
  • Not a league-start build; this is a day 3-6 invested setup

Key Skills

  • Falling Thunder — main mapping/bossing skill; Nova Projectiles for clear, Breach Lord’s Amalgum to double boss damage
  • Whirling Assault — the combo/charge engine; Culmination + Alish Chimes convert combo into power charges
  • Charge Staff — buffs quarterstaff attacks with lightning and a shockwave; keep it topped off
  • Charge Regulation (spirit) — converts surplus charges into crit chance, defenses, and skill speed
  • Herald of Ice + Freezing Mark — cold conversion via Breath of Alder fuels chain freezes and Herald procs

Gear & Anointments

The quarterstaff is the keystone: a Sinister base (12% base crit) with flat cold/lightning/fire converted to pure cold by a Breath of Alder rune, plus a flat plus-to-melee level. Stonefist converts the gloves, where the creator treats plus-to-defense, plus-two melee level, and the crit bonus as near-mandatory (the gear stack alone reaches ~19% base crit). Body armour is the biggest defensive piece — stack evasion plus a Rune of Warding for the curse-immunity combo. The amulet anoints Critical Exploit as a cheap crit option. Specific affix targets should be confirmed against the source video.

Endgame Notes

The creator farms Abyss and Ritual as the two strongest setups in the patch, with Expedition close behind — Abyss for Abyssal Echoes, Omens of Light, and raw Divines, Ritual for jackpot chase items like Mageblood or Headhunter. Deflection becomes a gear requirement as you push juiced high-tier maps. The build is presented as a still-evolving update, with the live planner tracked daily by the creator.
