Overview
This is a beginner-friendly crossbow grenade setup designed to make the post-0.5 campaign as smooth as possible. It works especially well for Warrior, Mercenary, and Ranger, but most classes can adapt it. The core idea is mobility: throw grenades ahead of you into packs and keep moving forward while monsters die behind you, never stopping to fight. The same kit also handles bosses comfortably thanks to solid damage and a safe, kiting playstyle.
Progression is staged around natural campaign milestones. You open with Explosive Grenade plus Fragmentation Rounds, add Permafrost Bolts in Clearfell for freeze safety, pick up Flash Grenade at level six, then Gas Grenade after Rathbreaker — at which point the build becomes a true grenade-rotation, cycling cooldowns so there’s almost no downtime. Act 3 is the big power spike: a Bombard Crossbow at level 33 adds an extra projectile to every grenade, and Oil Grenade replaces Flash Grenade for strong ignite damage.
It’s a low-stress league starter and farming character that can carry you all the way to maps before you swap into a main build.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Extremely beginner-friendly — eventually just two main buttons with Mirage Archer auto-firing Gas Grenade
- Move-and-throw playstyle keeps you safe through the whole campaign
- Cheap and forgiving; built around armour and resistances rather than expensive uniques
- Flexible across Warrior, Mercenary, and Ranger
Cons
- A leveling/campaign build, not a min-maxed endgame project — most players transition out later
- Relies on hitting key gear milestones (Bombard Crossbow at 33) for its power spikes
- Boss fights lean on stacking the right resistances rather than raw single-target burst
- Damage is comfortable, not spectacular, in higher-tier endgame
Key Skills
- Explosive Grenade — primary pack-clearing grenade from level one
- Permafrost Bolts — early freeze utility that makes the campaign much safer
- Flash Grenade — fast-detonation grenade for enemies rushing you (later swapped for Oil Grenade)
- Gas Grenade — completes the rotation; auto-fired by Mirage Archer once you have 60 spirit
- Oil Grenade — level-33 ignite addition that synergizes with Explosive Grenade
Gear & Anointments
Gear priorities are simple: armour and resistances above all, since armour is especially strong for campaign progression in 0.5. Spend found currency on incremental gear and flask upgrades constantly — small improvements speed the campaign noticeably. The defining item is the Bombard Crossbow at level 33, which grants grenades an additional projectile; good rolls last to around level 59, but any higher-damage base works as a replacement. For tough act bosses (Count Geonor, Jamanra), stack the relevant elemental resistance to smooth out the fight. Multishot and Magnified Area support both grenades for clear.
Endgame Notes
The build comfortably carries into early maps and can be kept as a league-starter/farming character, but it’s explicitly intended as a stepping stone before you transition into a dedicated endgame main build.
