Overview
This Gemling Legionnaire build weaves together a curse-driven trigger engine and a stacked Flameblast to melt everything on screen while the character glides through maps at full movement speed. The core loop pairs Despair with Impending Doom and Spell Cascade so that a single tap fires the whole curse package at once, thanks to the enormous cast speed the build accumulates. Because ignite is converted into chaos damage through the Black Flame covenant on the tree, every layer of the build ends up scaling one stat — chaos — which lets Despair’s chaos-resistance shred multiply the payoff.
What makes it stand out is how smooth it feels to pilot. Tapping Despair instead of holding it keeps the character at 100% move speed, Frost Flame Nova refreshes ignite duration and freezes packs, and a deep Wither stack (over 100% Wither effect) both amplifies chaos damage and cuts incoming enemy damage. The creator calls it the smoothest build they have ever played, and the appeal is exactly that — mobility, layered debuffs, and a self-sustaining defensive core rather than raw glass-cannon numbers.
This is very much a juiced endgame character. It leans on high gem levels (level 40 Despair and Flameblast via stacked plus-levels), a Megalomaniac, alternate-quality gem stacking, and self-crafted gloves, so it is best approached as a build to grow into rather than a fresh-league starter.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Full 100% movement speed while casting by tapping Despair instead of holding it
- Single-tap curse combo (Despair + Impending Doom + Spell Cascade) fires everything at once from high cast speed
- Layered defense: Mind over Matter, Consecrated Ground life/ES regen, Arctic Armour, and 100%+ Wither effect for reduced enemy damage
- Everything scales one stat — chaos — once ignite converts via Black Flame covenant
- Strong crowd control from Temporal Chain, Enfeeble, freeze, and heavy Wither
Cons
- Very gear-gated: needs high plus-levels, a Megalomaniac, and crafted best-in-slot pieces
- Requires the split-personality Sorceress starting point on the tree — not flexible
- Only one ignite source, so ignite uptime depends on the Flameblast loop
- Not a budget or league-start option
Key Skills
- Flameblast — main damage; stacks to 10 stages for ~1000% more ailment magnitude, ignite converted to chaos
- Despair + Impending Doom + Spell Cascade — the curse-trigger core, tapped for mobility
- Frost Flame Nova — refreshes ignite duration and freezes packs
- Withering Presence — rapid 10-stack Wither for chaos amp and enemy damage reduction
- Temporal Chain + Enfeeble — slow and weaken layer, linked with curse magnitude
Gear & Anointments
The build is staff-based with a wand off-hand, both carrying “gain extra fire damage” which the creator compensates for on the Lore Weave. Must-have enablers include a Megalomaniac (ideally with the Emulation notable), self-crafted gloves with a decay modifier, Whisper of Doom for the extra curse, and heavy Wither effect rolled across gloves, tree, and jewels. Arctic Armour and “applies elemental damage” on helmet/armour round out the defense. Specific unique and crafted item details should be confirmed against the source video and the creator’s poe.ninja profile.
Endgame Notes
Geared toward juiced mapping. Consecrated Ground doubles as a pre-boss and Ritual sustain tool, and the curse plus Wither stack keeps packs slow and weak enough that the character’s energy shield and life regen carry it comfortably through dangerous content.
