Overview
This is a zone-by-zone campaign walkthrough for a Gemling Legionnaire that finishes on Ice Shot and Snipe. It is a route guide first and a build guide second: every act is broken down into which zones to enter, which league mechanic to stop for, which quest reward to take, and exactly which gem to cut with each uncut skill gem the campaign hands out.
The structural trick is that Ice Shot is not usable until level 31, so the character spends the first three acts on Twister instead. That means creating a Huntress first, running the opening zone to bank a spear plus Whirling Slash and Twister in the stash, then rolling the Mercenary who will actually be played. Frost Bomb goes on early to generate cold infusion, Ice Nova converts that into chilled ground, and chilled ground is what makes the Twister damage acceptable through Act 1 and 2.
The bow swap happens in Act 3 after the Temple of Chaos, at which point Ice Shot takes over clear and Snipe becomes the single-target button. Weapon-set discipline matters throughout — everything sits on weapon set one except Freezing Mark, which is the sole weapon-set-two skill.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Fully deterministic route with named zones, bosses and quest rewards for every act plus the interlude
- Fits a fresh league perfectly: every weapon is crafted from campaign drops with transmutes and augments
- Twister carries the early acts hard, so the pre-level-31 stretch does not feel like a compromise
- Vendor-check reminders at each town keep gear relevant without needing trade
Cons
- The dual-character opening (Huntress for gems, then Mercenary) is fiddly and easy to get wrong
- The guide stops at the end of the campaign — the creator states the endgame configuration is undecided
- Heavy on step memorisation; the value drops sharply if you deviate from the route
- Weapon-set assignment mistakes silently cost a large amount of damage
Key Skills
- Twister — acts 1 through 3 clear and boss damage, fed by Whirling Slash
- Ice Shot — the level 31 clear skill the whole route builds toward
- Snipe — single target from Act 3 onward, given all Gemcutter’s Prisms
- Frost Bomb / Ice Nova — early cold infusion and chilled ground for the Twister multiplier
- Freezing Mark — boss debuff, the only skill on weapon set two
Gear & Anointments
There are three crafted weapon checkpoints. Act 2 wants a Wing Spear with attack speed, crafted with transmutes and augments for flat physical. Act 3 introduces the Cultist Bow — buy bases with an open prefix, augment for physical and cold, and sell anything that rolls badly rather than committing currency. Act 4 introduces the Artillery Bow, which is the weapon that carries the rest of the campaign.
Ascendancy is taken at Trial of Sekhema in Act 2 for the Gemling points, with Vitus Barrier as the first pick. Lesser Jeweller’s Orbs found in Act 2 and 3 are deliberately saved for the Ice Shot and Snipe links rather than spent on Twister. Specific unique targets are not part of this route — it is designed to be run self-found.
