Overview
This is a Spark Spell Totem setup built around stacking maximum mana, played on the Ritualist ascendancy. Mana does double duty here: Might Over Matter turns the pool into a defensive layer, while Rat Cage Globe converts stacked mana into critical hit chance and raw damage. The totems do all the casting, so the moment-to-moment gameplay is placing three to five Spell Totems and letting Spark ricochet through packs.
The Ritualist choice is an accident of the league rather than an optimisation. The creator originally levelled the ascendancy to farm negative rarity in 0.4 — the only ascendancy able to equip a third ring — and when that strategy was removed in 0.5 they kept the character and made the build work anyway. The extra ring slot and the 25% increased bonuses from equipped rings and amulets still pay off, since every ring here is a mana-and-crit pedestal, but the creator openly states that Gemling Legionnaire is likely the stronger host for this skill combination.
The payoff is a genuine one-button endgame character. Three totems were enough to clear T16 maps, kill pinnacle bosses and run carry services for most of the league; the five-totem version is pure min-max on top of an already finished build.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- One-button gameplay — place totems and everything on screen dies, with no rotation to maintain
- Totems tank the damage, so the character rarely has to stand in danger to deal damage
- Mana scaling means a single stat improves both damage and effective life at the same time
- Three totems already clear T16 and pinnacle content; the expensive tier is optional
- The Ritualist’s extra ring slot and ring/amulet bonus node make gear upgrades unusually impactful
Cons
- Gear-gated: the build wants a Mnemonic Ring set, Rat Cage Globe and heavy mana rolls before it comes online
- Might Over Matter applies 50% less recovery rate, so mana regeneration becomes mandatory on multiple slots
- Ancestral Bond means the character itself deals no damage — nothing to fall back on if totems are misplaced
- The creator’s own setup uses Mageblood and a Megalomaniac worth several hundred divines; the budget path is untested on camera
- By the creator’s own admission Ritualist is one of the weaker ascendancies for this skill
Key Skills
- Spark — the sole damage source, cast by the totems and scaled by mana and projectile count
- Spell Totem — the delivery mechanism; Ancestral Bond doubles the totem limit at 75 spirit each
- Arc Mage — supporting cast layer, reserves a large chunk of spirit
- Clarity — mana sustain to fight the Might Over Matter recovery penalty
Gear & Anointments
The weapon is a Runic Fork with five sockets — six is a luxury, not a requirement. The one mandatory weapon modifier is chance for spell skills to fire two additional projectiles, which is where the damage spike comes from. Rat Cage Globe is the core scaler, granting increased critical hit chance and increased damage per 100 maximum mana.
- Rings — Mnemonic Ring (new 0.5 base) with increased and flat maximum mana, added lightning damage, cast speed, resistances and mana regeneration; Calandra’s Touch copies the best ring
- Amulet — maximum mana, spirit for extra totems, cast speed, level of all spell skills
- Helmet — energy shield, increased spirit reservation efficiency of skills (near-mandatory for the totem count), mana and intelligence
- Gloves — level of all proud skills, energy shield, increased effect of socketed augmented items, mana rune
- Body armour — as much maximum mana and spirit as possible, plus missing resistances
- Belt — Mageblood on the showcased character; Ingenuity with ~28-30% ring bonus is the stated budget substitute
- Boots — high mana, 35% movement speed, intelligence, missing resistances
- Jewels — Prism with +2 to Spark, plus critical hit chance, critical damage bonus with spells and mana regeneration on every jewel
On the passive tree the two load-bearing keystones are Might Over Matter (mana as a defensive layer) and Ancestral Bond (doubled totem limit). The creator points to the linked PoB Ninja import for the full tree rather than walking it node by node. Chaos resistance is left at zero on the showcased character; the other resistances are capped.
Endgame Notes
The build was used through T16 maps, pinnacle bosses and paid carry services for most of the league on three totems alone. The upgrade to five totems came late and is described as unnecessary for clearing content — it is a min-max step, not a gate. Anyone rebuilding this from scratch should consider Gemling Legionnaire or Spirit Walker as a host instead of Ritualist, per the creator’s own recommendation.
