KallTorak’s Supporting Fire Tactician is presented as the best league starter for Path of Exile 2 patch 0.5, taking advantage of two major buffs to the Supporting Fire skill that arrived with the Return of the Ancients update. Supporting Fire is a Tactician-exclusive Minion Command ability that rains hundreds of arrows across the entire screen at once, functioning as a one-button clear skill unlike anything else in the game.
The build scales Supporting Fire through three vectors: Strength (increases damage), Dexterity (increases Area of Effect), and gem level (increases both). Equipping Astramentis at level 16 fuses all three stats into a single ring, making it the defining gear acquisition of the early campaign. With Astramentis in place, every stat point passively converts to Supporting Fire damage and coverage, creating a smooth power curve through all nine acts.
Tactician ascendancy provides the key node Unleash Hell (accessed after the first ascendancy via Polymathy), which transforms Supporting Fire into a high-frequency barrage that covers the screen. The playstyle after this unlock is genuinely one button — channel Supporting Fire and everything dies.

Meginord’s Girdle belt similarly provides flat Strength and is widely available. At level 16, Astramentis is the transformative acquisition — it combines all attributes into one source and is the single biggest damage and AoE upgrade in the build.
Endgame: Stack Strength as high as possible across all gear slots. Target items with “+Strength”, flat attribute stacking, and minion gem levels. Life and resistance capping round out the defensive profile. The Brass Dome is not required but provides excellent armour for tanky content if budget allows.
