Overview

This build takes the Monk down the Acolyte of Chayula ascendancy and turns it into one of the strongest minion summoners of patch 0.5 — a Skeletal Reaver army the creator nicknames “The Chonk.” The core trick is the Into the Breach ascendancy skill, which scatters remnants on the ground around you. The second ascendancy node forces every remnant to become the chaos variant, so once you reach the higher levels you keep a sustained ten stacks of roughly 182% of damage as extra chaos feeding your minions. Layered with Wither, Despair and a Mark for armour break, the reavers hit absurdly hard while you barely move.

What makes it stand out is how comfortable it plays. The creator describes it as a “walking simulator” — remnants spawn around you constantly, your presence radius covers the whole screen via Alpha’s Howl, and the Selfless Remnant support hands those buffs to your minions instead of yourself. At high budget the single-target boss damage rivals the popular Spirit Walker monk, but with significantly smoother and faster clear.

Defences are an evasion-and-deflection base topped with a small Energy Shield buffer regenerated by Ghost Dance and Spectral Ward, which converts your high evasion into Energy Shield for a reliable EHP cushion.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Boss single-target damage competitive with the top monk builds while keeping far better clear speed
  • Extremely comfortable, low-input playstyle — remnants and presence do most of the work
  • Massive screen-wide presence keeps minions permanently buffed so they never drop their stacks
  • Strong, self-sustaining defensive layer (evasion + deflection + Energy-Shield-via-Spectral-Ward)
  • Reavers are very durable once their elemental resistances are capped

Cons

  • High-budget oriented — a From Nothing jewel, Prism of Belief and corrupted uniques are pricey
  • Low-budget single-target lags behind the Spirit Walker monkey variant
  • Hard requirement to keep minion resistances capped or the reavers fall over
  • Easy to grief yourself — never use the Reaver active or weapon-swap, as killing minions wipes their remnant stacks

Key Skills

  • Skeletal Reavers — the primary damage minions, scaled with Rage, Muster and the chaos remnant stacks
  • Into the Breach — generates the chaos remnants; run Selfless Remnant + Remnant Potency + Harmonic Remnants
  • Skeletal Frost Mages — ice armour to keep the army alive, especially against big boss AoE
  • Storm Mage — shock application via Shocking Overcharge + Shock Conduction
  • Wither / Despair — ramp chaos damage taken so the 182% extra chaos lands even harder

Gear & Anointments

A scepter with flat minion damage and attack speed is the weapon of choice; spirit-providing scepters are a budget alternative for more minions. Body armour, gloves, buckler and amulet all stack high evasion with “gain deflection rating equal to a percent of evasion rating,” feeding Energy Shield through Spectral Ward. Alpha’s Howl (ideally corrupted with +1 to minion skills) doubles presence radius, which is what makes Selfless Remnant blanket the whole minion army. A From Nothing jewel with a Necromantic Talisman opens up Gigantic and extra minion defences. The anointed Enhanced Reflexes oil adds evasion, dexterity and deflection. Endgame Notes

The build is built for high-tier maps and pinnacle bossing. Gargantuan Wasp spectres (Plague Harvesters) are an alternative to reavers for Trial of the Sekhemas carries thanks to their ability to fly over walls, at the cost of some single-target. Cap minion elemental resistances with jewels and “allies in your presence have increased elemental resistance” weapon mods to handle the hardest content.
