Overview
This Mercenary build turns the crossbow into a lightning shotgun: Galvanic Shards handles map clear while Shockburst Rounds takes over on bosses. The two skills live on separate weapon sets so each gets its own passive allocation — one tuned for clear and movement, the other for single-target damage — without any awkward swap-combo gameplay.
The defensive identity comes from the Witchhunter’s Sorcery Ward. Since the ward scales with evasion and recharges once you stop taking damage, stacking evasion alongside Wind Dancer and “not hit recently” bonuses produces a barrier that makes normal hits nearly irrelevant. The main remaining threat is damage over time, which the build patches with ignite protection, leech and life on kill.
The build is designed to grow in stages: a cheaper starting version, a mid-budget setup where Thunderstorm is cast manually before bursting, and a high-budget crit version where Cast on Critical automates the shock so you simply shoot.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Smooth, wide clear from Galvanic Shards with Fork and Pierce spreading through packs
- Heavy boss burst from Shockburst Rounds once the target is shocked
- Sorcery Ward plus high evasion makes hit damage very hard to land
- Witchhunter explosions chain well in dense content such as Abyss
- Clear upgrade path from cheap to fully automated crit setup
Cons
- Damage over time (ignite, ignited ground) is the main weak spot and must be addressed
- The automated version needs roughly 180–190 spirit, which gates it behind amulet and helmet upgrades
- Mana sustain needs leech on gloves or rings to keep Thunderstorm firing
- Top-end damage relies on expensive supports such as Rakiata’s Flow
Key Skills
- Galvanic Shards — main mapping skill, supported by Fork, Pierce and Double Barrel for spread
- Shockburst Rounds — bossing skill that hits hardest against shocked enemies
- Thunderstorm (Cast on Critical) — applies shock automatically on the high-budget version, with Shock Conduction carrying it to targets
- Emergency Reload — burst window for Shockburst Rounds
- Wind Dancer / Ghost Dance / Blink — evasion stacking, defensive layers and mobility kept on both weapon sets
Gear & Anointments
The crossbow is the most important item: a fast base with projectile or attack skill levels, critical chance and good damage. Budget players can start with a standard crossbow carrying +attack skill levels. Recommended slots:
- Amulet — high spirit roll plus projectile levels, then evasion, attributes, resistances or crit
- Rings — attack damage, resistances and increased lightning damage; mana leech here or on gloves
- Gloves / Boots — evasion and energy shield with resistances
- Jewels — rare Sapphires or Emeralds for evasion and attack stats; a Prism of Belief for +3 to either main skill
- Passives — Crystallised Immunities for ignite protection; Careful Consideration is a strong anoint option for extra evasion when not hit recently
- Charms — freeze immunity, plus stun or bleed depending on what feels dangerous
Endgame Notes
The fully invested crit version reaches millions of DPS. Rakiata’s Flow and Gorukha’s Resolve can be moved from Shockburst Rounds onto Galvanic Shards if you want farming damage over boss damage.
