Overview
This build is a theorycrafted Monk concept built around the new 0.5 Martial Artist ascendancy. The core insight is that the Marshal Master node lets the character build and retain combo from any attack hit regardless of weapon set — which finally makes it practical to pair a bow with the Monk’s signature Tempest Bell instead of being locked into a quarterstaff. With the buffed 0.5 bell (up to three bells at once) handling single-target, the bow handles clear, and Hollow Palm fills the off-hand to keep gearing focused on the bow.
The damage centerpiece is an Ice Shot + Tempest Bell projectile interaction. Firing Ice Shot through a bell triggers a full splinter burst on impact, but with 100% pierce chance the original shot continues on and splinters again on the boss — effectively two Ice Shots for the price of one. Layering Tornado Shot on top pulls every splinter back through the boss for a third pass. Drill Neck closes the loop because the bell counts as a pierce, unlocking its projectile-return clause and its hefty per-pierce damage and crit-chance multipliers on boss fights where the quiver normally does nothing.
The creator emphasizes that this is a discovery video rather than a finalized planner — gameplay was demonstrated on a stripped-down test character with zero ascendancy points and a 1-exalt Drill Neck, and the numbers (4.2M–4.4M Ice Shot hits) held up anyway. A polished tree and planner are promised in a follow-up.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- New-class ascendancy lets bow + bell coexist without losing combo on weapon swap.
- Tempest Bell + Ice Shot pierce interaction effectively doubles single-target damage with one button.
- Drill Neck stays relevant into deep endgame thanks to the bell-as-pierce trick — viable as a one-exalt boss tool.
- Hollow Palm keeps the off-hand cheap; gearing focus is the bow.
- Marshal Adept also feeds energy shield recharge delay reduction, mitigating the 0.5 ES nerfs.
Cons
- Theorycraft, not a finished guide — no published planner or tree yet.
- Single-target requires positioning the bell to line up between you and the boss, with a learning curve while landing the cone.
- Defenses lean on energy shield at a time when ES recharge has been nerfed across the board.
- Drill Neck is great for boss damage but a juiced rare quiver still outscales it later.
Key Skills
- Ice Shot — primary cold projectile that splinters on impact; the doubled-splinter interaction with the bell is the build’s damage core.
- Tornado Shot — secondary projectile that scatters splinters into the bell and Drill Neck return path for extra hits.
- Tempest Bell — drop in front of the boss to convert your projectiles into a multi-pass damage event; goal is to run three bells stacked.
- Hollow Palm — off-hand keystone that lets the build skip a quarterstaff entirely and pour budget into the bow.
Gear & Anointments
Weapon archetype is a bow with a Hollow Palm off-hand (no quarterstaff needed). The flagship unique is Drill Neck — used both for the 100% pierce that drives the doubled-splinter trick and for the per-pierce damage / crit chance bonuses that turn the bell into a damage-amplifier on bosses. The creator notes a juiced rare quiver eventually surpasses Drill Neck for pure DPS, but Drill Neck remains a strong one-exalt option that scales further than expected. Specific anointments and tree pathing are not finalized — they will arrive with the creator’s follow-up planner.
Endgame Notes
The creator argues the package scales “all the way into deep endgame” once weapon-set 1/2 is dedicated to min-maxing bell damage on one set and bow DPS on the other. With three bells active, base bell damage (~128) and the matching-element extra physical conversion (30% as extra of each matching element) compound into a layered projectile/AoE detonation on top of every shot. Mapping is positioned as a side benefit — drop a bell, shoot into it, evaporate elites — but the build is explicitly tuned around single-target.
