Overview

This is the high-investment evolution of the Explode Martial Artist, a crit-stacking quarterstaff Monk that turns concussive-rune explosions into a screen-clearing chain reaction. The core loop pairs Whirling Assault for the initial sweep with Concussive Runes doing the actual killing — when an enemy dies it explodes for 10% of its max life, which kills the next enemy, and so on across the whole pack. For single target, Falling Thunder is the crit nuke that deletes map bosses and pinnacle bosses outright.

The newer version leans on Living Lightning tech (socketed with Alless Chimes and Culmination) to automate power-charge generation and speed up energy-shield recharge, reducing the build’s old dependence on power-charge-on-crit gloves. It runs Chaos Inoculation, so the large maximum-life-loss downsides on auras like Berserk and Mystical Rage become free damage — Berserk alone is roughly a 30% more multiplier with no cost on a CI character.

This is explicitly an endgame, currency-heavy build. The creator warns it is not something to swap into until you already have the cheaper version running smoothly and a healthy stash, since several pieces cost upward of 100 Divines each.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Effectively immortal outside the most extreme stun scenarios — ~7k energy shield (CI), up to ~79% evade chance, ~60% deflect, plus quarterstaff guard layered on top for a ~9k effective hit pool
  • Concussive-rune explosions clear full screens; the build comfortably runs juiced 200% Delirium maps
  • One-shots essentially every map boss and pinnacle boss with a high-crit Falling Thunder
  • Power-charge and energy-shield-recharge automation makes the moment-to-moment play very smooth
  • Strong recovery loop: Ghost Dance plus Katal’s Rejuvenation refill energy shield quickly, protected from interruption by guard

Cons

  • Very expensive — best-in-slot amulet, anointed Crown of Eyes helmet, and a Headhunter/Mageblood-tier setup push the cost into hundreds of Divines
  • Not a league starter; needs the prior cheaper version and significant currency before transitioning
  • Mana sustain on Whirling Assault is awkward and requires Efficiency support or mana-cost nodes
  • Trigger-chain and charge-automation setup is gear- and gem-dependent, so it takes investment to come online

Key Skills

  • Whirling Assault — the opener; most of the time you only use the initial 0.5s sweep then dodge-cancel, since that first hit is enough to set off the chain
  • Concussive Runes — the real damage and the explosion engine; run in three skills, scaling hard with gem levels
  • Falling Thunder — the single-target crit nuke for map and pinnacle bosses (run Prototype + Inexorable Critical for a near-100% crit version)
  • Living Lightning (with Alless Chimes + Culmination) — automates power-charge generation and energy-shield recharge
  • Charged Staff / Pounce / Hollow Resonance — buff and utility layer (damage buff, big shock, stun + mana leech)

Gear & Anointments

Weapon is a Duality quarterstaff for its base crit damage (which multiplies all your crit-damage increases) and high physical damage, which feeds Runic Ward via a Runic Ward rune. Helmet is an Exceptional Crown of Eyes anointed with Mystical Rage — note the Raven-Touched rune needed to anoint it is itself extremely expensive (~80 Divines). The amulet is the best-in-slot piece: an Eternal Rage amulet with +4 melee skills and 50 Spirit, anointed with Zarok’s Gift for an extra jewel socket. Body armour is pure evasion to maximise Spectral Ward and Beast Shield Skin scaling. The build runs Headhunter (Mageblood is also viable with attribute reshuffling). Specific exact item rolls should be confirmed against the source video.

Endgame Notes

The damage and defences are tuned for the hardest content: juiced 200% Delirium maps without dying, and one-shotting pinnacle bosses with the high-crit Falling Thunder configuration. For the consistent-crit boss setup, swap some raw damage supports for Prototype and Inexorable Critical to push Falling Thunder to near-guaranteed crits with a power charge.
