Overview
This build takes Molten Blast — a skill that feels clunky and dangerous when self-cast — and hands it entirely to Ancestral Warrior Totems. Instead of rooting yourself in place for the cast animation and the projectile delay, you drop totems ahead of the pack and keep moving while they fire the barrage for you. The result is a totem archetype that plays at walking pace and locks the screen down rather than racing through it.
The engine is Gemling Legionnaire’s gem-quality scaling. Molten Blast gains extra projectiles from quality, so every point of quality the ascendancy hands out converts directly into screen coverage, and running two maces pushes that projectile count further still. The maces also supply freeze buildup, damage taken from mana before life, and cold conversion on mace skills, so the same setup that deals the damage is also the thing that stops enemies from acting.
Rather than a crit stacker or a conventional melee character, this is a build of stacked small advantages: more quality means more projectiles, more strength means more damage and energy shield, more spirit means more totems, and more totem placement speed means the whole thing feels responsive instead of sluggish. Strength is the through-line — via Iron Casp, Crown of the Eye-style scaling, and Blacksmith’s Training from a Timeless Jewel, it is simultaneously the damage stat and the defensive stat.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Totems do the awkward part — you never eat the self-cast animation lock or projectile delay
- Freeze buildup is strong enough that crowd control functions as a defensive layer in its own right
- Bosses freeze extremely fast when totems are placed close enough for overlapping hits
- Strength scaling feeds damage and energy shield at once, so offence and defence grow together
- Relaxed, near one-button playstyle once the core scaling is online
Cons
- The creator is explicit that it is not one of the fastest mappers in the game
- Needs real investment in quality and spirit before it comes together — it feels underwhelming early
- Gem-link setup is wide and fiddly, with many supported utility skills to configure
- Wants rare jewels with specific rolls (totem placement speed, %strength) to feel good
Key Skills
- Ancestral Warrior Totem + Molten Blast — the core damage package; Origin Totems is close to mandatory for responsiveness, Nova Projectiles for coverage
- Perfect Strike — supported by Perfected Endurance, Elemental Armament, Deep Freeze and Heavy Swing; mainly a flask trigger and a burst button
- Elemental Weakness — with Heightened Curse and Cursed Ground for the bossing debuff
- Temporal Chains (Blasphemy) — Heightened Curse plus Slow Potency for a permanent safety net
- Convalescence — the reliable recovery button for hard map pressure
Gear & Anointments
Dual maces are the defining choice: they enable the extra projectile scaling and carry the freeze buildup, cold conversion, and damage-taken-from-mana-before-life that the whole plan rests on. Gear priorities are strength, quality, spirit, and energy shield everywhere they can be found.
- Weapons: two maces — the projectile and freeze scaling both depend on this
- Jewels: rare jewels rolling movement speed, totem placement speed, %strength and useful damage; a Timeless Jewel for Blacksmith’s Training
- Boots: movement speed and energy shield
- Rings: resistances, strength, mana, plus rarity where it fits
- Mageblood is not required, but is a convenient way to solve speed and resistances if the currency is there
Ascendancy order is Essence of Virtue, then Advanced Dramaturgy (the quality scaling that makes Molten Blast work), then Implanted Gems with Bolstering Implants for the extra gem levels and defensive value.
Endgame Notes
The build is graded on when it comes online, not on how fast it starts. Three totems, good freeze uptime, and enough recovery is the threshold — before that, judgement should be reserved. Past that point, further upgrades make it faster, smoother, and safer without changing the core loop. Against bosses, place totems as close to the target as possible so that outward-firing and returning projectiles overlap; the single-target gain from correct totem placement is large. Heavy Frost on the tree is a key pickup — it lets hits ignore non-negative elemental resistances on frozen enemies, and this build freezes constantly.
