Overview
This Whirling Assault Monk leans hard into the patch 0.5 channelled playstyle: you hold a single button, channel Hollow Form into Whirling Assault, and let it carry both clear and single-target. The creator’s pitch is comfort and safety — the build is tanky enough to face-tank the majority of endgame bosses while standing still, and clears juiced maps without needing to read map mods first.
The damage engine is high critical hit chance on a quarterstaff rather than raw weapon physical DPS. Because crit and added levels are weighted so heavily, a staff with strong crit chance and +levels to attack skills outperforms a much higher flat-physical staff that lacks them. That crit base then feeds power-charge generation, which loops back into both damage and the build’s defining quality-of-life feature: mana sustain.
The whole point is a true one-button experience. Mana is solved so you never touch a mana flask — Lavianga’s Spirit (an un-removable mana flask uptime), the Consecrated Casting node, and the Veil of Power anoint (recover 5% max mana per power charge consumed) together let you channel indefinitely.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Genuine one-button gameplay — hold Whirling Assault for both clear and bosses
- Extremely safe: face-tanks most endgame bosses while standing still
- Ignores map mods — run any juiced map without screening for dangerous rolls
- Strong, fully-solved mana sustain so you never break channel for a flask
Cons
- Gear-gated: wants specific uniques (Lavianga’s Spirit, Kaom’s gloves) and a crit-and-levels quarterstaff
- Not a league-start build — it’s tuned for endgame and assumes a built character
- Channelled one-button playstyle can feel repetitive
- Mana sustain depends on the Veil of Power anoint and Consecrated Casting being correctly allocated
Key Skills
- Whirling Assault (in Hollow Form) — the single channelled skill that handles all clear and single-target
- Power-charge generation — drives both crit damage bonuses and the 5% max-mana-per-charge sustain loop
- Support links — Armour Break, Heavy Swing, Blindside and Mobility (swap Mobility out for pinnacle fights)
Gear & Anointments
Weapon is a high-crit-chance quarterstaff with +levels to attack skills (the creator runs Foe of the Hunt for 50% increased damage vs rares/uniques); crit and levels outweigh raw physical here. Defensive layering blends evasion and energy shield — an ES-base helmet (~1.8k ES), evasion body armour with some ES and deflection rating, pure evasion boots (evasion + deflection scales well in 0.5), plus a high-attribute amulet with +2 melee levels. Kaom’s gloves supply power/frenzy/endurance charge generation. The mandatory anoint is Veil of Power (mana recovery + crit damage on power-charge consumption); pair with Lavianga’s Spirit flask and the Consecrated Casting node for the no-mana-flask sustain. Runes: cold/lightning res, reduced curse effect, a recovery rune and movement speed. Specific item rolls to be confirmed against the source video.
Endgame Notes
The build is designed for endgame first — the creator runs it through heavily juiced maps and pinnacle bosses, swapping the Mobility support for more damage on big single-target fights. The tankiness plus mod-agnostic clear make it a low-stress mapper that doubles as a strong boss-killer.
