Overview
This build turns Flameblast into a pure ignite engine and lets Oil Grenade do the spreading. Gemling Legionnaire is the enabler: stacking gem quality on Flameblast pushes ignite magnitude per stage far past what any other ascendancy reaches, landing around 600% more magnitude at the quality levels the creator runs. The result is a character that clears tier 15 waystones straight out of the campaign without a single meaningful upgrade.
Oil Grenade is the second multiplier. Once an enemy is ignited, the grenade adds a large slice of its own fire damage into that ignite as unscalable fire damage, and the burning ground it leaves behind covers an enormous area. In practice the rotation is one Flameblast to seed the ignite, then Oil Grenade spam for the rest of the map — the burning ground carries the damage forward on its own.
The creator picked it as their event starter specifically because the AoE footprint suits Ritual: a single grenade covers most of the altar area, so anything that spawns dies on arrival. It also scales cleanly into an energy-shield CI version later, which is where the endgame ceiling sits.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Runs tier 15 waystones on a fresh, barely-geared character straight after the campaign
- Extremely low floor — the creator has run the same core on roughly a 3 divine budget
- Massive burning-ground AoE makes Ritual and other dense-spawn mechanics trivial and safe
- Two-button gameplay once the rotation is set up
- Scales to roughly 10 million ignite DPS with an energy-shield CI endgame version
Cons
- Flameblast is a level 52 skill, so the whole plan is a swap build — you level on something else first
- The swap needs a large respec, budget roughly 80k gold saved from Act 2 onward
- Heavy frame drops when stacking Oil Grenades in one spot; weaker PCs will feel it
- If your own burning ground gets ignited by an enemy the loop stops and Flameblast must be recast
- Burning ground does not hit flying enemies without a Tornado to carry the damage upward
Key Skills
- Flameblast — the ignite seeder; gem quality is the primary damage stat, not links
- Oil Grenade — clear and the second damage multiplier, adds fire damage into the existing ignite
- Tornado — picks up the burning ground so flying enemies actually take damage
- Frost Bolt (leveling) — permanent freeze filler available from level 1
- Fragmentation Rounds (leveling) — the damage half of the pre-swap combo, used on bosses and tough rares
Gear & Anointments
Gem quality on Flameblast is the build. Prioritise quality sources over raw damage rolls early, then move into energy shield as you transition toward the CI version. Split Personality is the one unique the creator calls out — it lets the Gemling allocate remote tree starting zones cheaply, which is how the build reaches the Sorceress ignite cluster and the energy-shield stacking nodes on the same character. The endgame version the creator shows sits near 18k energy shield.
- Weapon archetype: whatever supports gem levels and quality for Flameblast
- Must-have unique: Split Personality (jewel) for cross-tree access
- Specific rare rolls and anointments to be confirmed against the source video
Endgame Notes
The endgame path travels into the Sorceress side of the tree for ignite scaling and CI energy-shield stacking. Gemling Legionnaire was not touched in the 0.5.5 changes, so the interaction is live for the event — the creator expects it to be adjusted at 1.0.
