Overview

This is a Werewolf build wearing Witch Hunter colours — a Mercenary who takes the lycanthropy transformation and then leans on the ascendancy to fix the archetype’s usual problem. Werewolf play means jumping into the middle of a pack and staying there, which normally means dying there. The Witch Hunter answers that with Sorcery Ward, a shield scaled off armour and evasion rating that, once Ceremonial Evolution is taken, absorbs physical and chaos hits as well as elemental ones.

The offensive half runs on the “surrounded” cluster on the Mercenary side of the tree, unlocked in practice by a Constricting Command helmet that lowers the surrounded threshold by four enemies. As a melee character you almost always have something in your presence, so the whole cluster — attack speed, life regeneration, deflection, attack damage, movement speed, evasion and armour while surrounded — is effectively permanent uptime. Witchbane and No Mercy then convert stripped concentration into extra damage, which matters against tough rares in juiced maps, not only against bosses.

What ties it together is a compounding loop: rage grants increased evasion rating through the Grace of the Ancestors notable (reachable only via anointment or a Megalomaniac), evasion feeds Sorcery Ward, and being surrounded raises armour and evasion further. The creator reports roughly 7,500 Sorcery Ward on top of a ~2k life pool in the hideout, climbing in combat — and deliberately built it on cheap gear to prove the archetype rather than to show off a mirror-tier character.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Among the tankiest setups in the game: Sorcery Ward plus evasion, deflection and a mana-before-life layer stacks into an effective pool far above the life bar
  • Genuinely budget — the core uniques are inexpensive and the rest of the gear is ordinary rares
  • The surrounded cluster gives near-permanent offensive and defensive buffs to a melee character for very few points
  • Clears heavily juiced content, including high-delirium maps, on that budget
  • A clear upgrade path exists: swap evasion rolls for flat damage, push crit, and it scales to far higher investment

Cons

  • Damage over time and ground effects bypass Sorcery Ward entirely — bleeding and ignite ground will kill you if you stand in it
  • Requires charm coverage for those ground and ailment threats, so charm slots are non-negotiable
  • Depends on maintaining several buffs, including a weapon-swap Savage Fury setup, so uptime discipline matters
  • Grace of the Ancestors is unreachable by pathing; it must come from an anointment or a Megalomaniac roll

Key Skills

  • Cross Slash — the Werewolf’s main engage and execute, opening and closing the rotation
  • Lunar Assault — the freeze application in the loop
  • Arctic Howl — a maintained buff that feeds the build’s echo damage
  • Lunar Blessing — kept up permanently; benefits directly from the ascendancy’s cooldown recovery
  • Savage Fury — sustained via weapon swap for constant damage and onslaught uptime
  • Sorcery Ward — granted by Obsessive Rituals, the build’s primary defensive layer

Gear & Anointments

The gear plan is armour-and-evasion double-dipping, because every point of both feeds Sorcery Ward.

  • Helmet — Constricting Command, the keystone of the build; the surrounded threshold reduction is what makes the Mercenary cluster work for a melee character
  • Belt — Ingenuity, amplifying flat damage on rings (run at least two flat damage rolls) and any evasion rolled there
  • Megalomaniac with Pure Chaos for damage, or with Grace of the Ancestors as the alternative route to that notable
  • Time-Lost jewel rolled for increased melee damage, maximum rage, rage-as-damage and defences
  • Other jewels — attack damage, life regeneration, maximum rage wherever they fit
  • Gloves and chest — hybrid armour/evasion pieces, chosen so both stats contribute to Sorcery Ward
  • Anointment — Grace of the Ancestors if it is not covered by the Megalomaniac

Life regeneration is a real requirement, not a luxury, because the build burns rage constantly and runs Berserk. Specific unique names beyond those listed should be confirmed against the source video.

Endgame Notes

The creator runs this through high-delirium juiced maps and points to Sorcery Ward as the reason it suits low-life play: with a large ward pool protecting the life bar, low-life damage bonuses become viable. Pushing further means shifting evasion rolls to flat damage and investing into crit.
