Overview
This build is a Gemling Legionnaire minion summoner that leans entirely on Unearth as its damage skill, turning the Mercenary’s gem-focused ascendancy into a temporary-minion powerhouse. The core trick is the Gemling Legionnaire’s Adapted Capabilities, which lets gem attribute requirements be paid from the character’s highest attribute. That frees the build to stack a huge pool of strength for life and survivability while still running intelligence-hungry minion gems, with only enough intelligence on gear to satisfy gear requirements rather than gems.
The other ascendancy pillars do the heavy lifting on scaling. Advanced turns gem quality into an extra effect, which on Unearth translates into a large more minion attack speed multiplier, so the build chases quality everywhere it can find it. Virtuous Barrier generates random emotes that grant life, regen, and defensive bonuses based on the attributes the character’s skills require, which is why the setup deliberately slots throwaway gems just to farm more emotes. The result is a swarm of Unearthed minions that are extremely fast and extremely aggressive.
In play the minions essentially decide where the character goes. They have a very wide aggro range and sprint at anything they can see, even off screen, killing packs before the player arrives. Because they are temporary summons that vanish if they stray too far, the intended playstyle is to follow the minions rather than lead them. For single target, the build sacrifices clerics as corpses and recasts Unearth on them to keep resurrecting the army, producing enormous boss damage.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Extremely fast pack clearing thanks to hyper-aggressive, high-attack-speed Unearthed minions
- Massive single-target damage that reportedly melts pinnacle bosses
- Flexible attribute handling via Adapted Capabilities means gem stat requirements are largely ignored
- Layered armour/evasion defenses boosted by emotes, Arctic Armour stages, and armour-applies-to-elemental modifiers
- Reaches the level 40 Unearth cap cheaply, so plus-level investment stays affordable
Cons
- The player does not fully control movement; you must chase your minions or they die and need resummoning
- Mechanically dense ascendancy with many interacting systems (emotes, rage, quality scaling) to understand
- Very mana hungry, with a high-level Unearth costing hundreds of mana per cast
- Rage upkeep adds button-pressing overhead via life flask and Infernal Cry
Key Skills
- Unearth — the main damage skill; summons the temporary minion army and is the central scaling target
- Cleric (summoned) — body count used both as corpses for Unearth and as resurrectable minions for sustained single target
- Pain Offering — single-target buff on clerics for added minion damage and attack speed
- Pounce / Predator’s Mark — weapon-swap setup that marks bosses to take more damage scaling with surrounding minions, plus armour breaking
- Arctic Armour — stacking armour defense layer, central to the build’s mitigation
- Infernal Cry — sustains rage during mapping so minions keep their rage-based damage and attack speed
Gear & Anointments
Gear priorities center on armour/evasion hybrid bases with life and resistances, since attributes are largely covered by the heavily traveled passive tree. The build chases quality and minion modifiers wherever possible, and uses idol sockets cleverly: a fox idol on the chest grants a bonded modifier that adds skill quality, while helmet and amulet slots prioritize plus level of minion skills and spirit. The amulet aims for a desecrated quality (kurgle) suffix crafted with Black-Blooded and suffix omens, and the wand is crafted with Amanamu omens to roll hybrid spell/minion damage cheaply.
- Weapons — a spirit/mana scepter with allies-in-presence damage plus a physical-skill-level wand; a Hedge Witch’s Rune of Wisdom adds another spell skill level
- Amulet — high spirit, plus level of minion skills, and ideally a desecrated quality suffix
- Chest — high-spirit armour/evasion base with a fox idol socket for the quality-granting bonded modifier
- Jewels — prioritize minion elemental resistances on every socket; minion damage is a bonus
- Endgame anoint — oiling the Paragon with Ferocity, Isolation, and Despair for quality of all skills (an expensive, late upgrade)
Endgame Notes
The creator reports clearing pinnacle encounters such as the Arbiter and the Trinity/Divinity fight, with bosses melting under the combination of Predator’s Mark, Pain Offering, and a maxed minion swarm. A higher-budget variant is teased that swaps Brutality for Ulaman’s lineage, picks up an Astramentis-style or passive-rage amulet to drop the rage-sustain nodes, and potentially moves to a sanctified scepter plus shield once enough plus-levels are stacked to keep Unearth at the level 40 cap.
