Overview

This Deadeye Ranger turns a single Lightning Arrow into a full-screen chain reaction. The bow hit freezes on impact, Herald of Ice shatters the frozen pack, Herald of Thunder mops up whatever is shocked, and Herald of Ash extends the chain further still. Running all three elemental heralds at once is what gives the build its identity in 0.5 — the first pack you kill effectively detonates the rest of the screen.

The glue holding it together is the armour-explosion tech. Runes that add chaos damage let the build break armour, and once armour is broken the herald explosions propagate cleanly through the pack instead of stalling on tanky mobs. Stacking well past 100% increased area of effect for the heralds is what lets each detonation reach the next group, so AoE is treated as a damage stat here, not a convenience stat.

Single target is not an afterthought. Lightning Rod paired with the Called Shots mark automation pushes the build past 3 million single-target DPS, and roughly 3.5k life gives enough of a buffer to survive the hits that do land. It is a gear-hungry setup — the herald explosion links and the fractured bow are real investments — but the payoff is a bow build that deletes packs at range and still burns pinnacle bosses down quickly.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Screen-wide clear from one button; herald chains do most of the work after the first kill
  • Over 3 million single-target DPS through Lightning Rod plus the mark setup
  • Gathering Winds stacks make the build extremely fast and smooth to move around maps with
  • Far Shot rewards the natural bow playstyle — the further away you stand, the harder you hit
  • Scales cleanly from a basic bow-and-quiver core into the full explosion tech

Cons

  • The armour-explosion herald links are explicitly called out as expensive; the build feels very different before you can afford them
  • Poor league-start candidate — it wants a dual-string bow with fractured tier-one cold damage or extra arrow
  • 3.5k life is adequate, not tanky; positioning still matters
  • Heavy screen noise from three heralds detonating at once
  • Freeze buildup is load-bearing — if enemies do not freeze, the Herald of Ice explosion loop never starts

Key Skills

  • Lightning Arrow — the main clear skill and the freeze applicator that starts every chain
  • Lightning Rod — the single-target companion, held on weapon set two so Rig Vault’s Ferocity applies
  • Herald of Ice — shatters frozen enemies; the primary explosion engine
  • Herald of Thunder — cleans up shocked enemies and extends the chain
  • Herald of Ash — adds the third layer of chain coverage once AoE is stacked high enough

Gear & Anointments

The bow carries the build. Aim for a dual-string base with either fractured tier-one cold damage or the chance to fire an additional arrow, then roll for whichever of the two you did not fracture. Gain 20% of damage as extra cold can be added with a perfect Essence of Ice. Socket a plus-one-arrow rune alongside a gain-damage-as-extra-chaos rune — the chaos damage is what enables the armour break the herald explosions depend on.

  • Quiver — plus two to all projectile gems, attack speed, increased damage with bow skills, and ideally crit chance or crit damage
  • Amulet — spirit, life, plus three projectile gems, and all attributes
  • Chest — high spirit and life, with more life crafted via a perfect Essence of the Body
  • Gloves and boots — life plus strong socket value through Essence of Horror; boots also want movement speed and resistances
  • Jewels — a Megalomaniac allocating Doom Slayer, a From Nothing for a movement-speed keystone, Heart of the Well for extra cold damage, and a Time-Lost Sapphire covering freeze buildup, cold penetration, AoE, and crit chance
  • Head Hunter is optional and purely a luxury; the build does not need it

Endgame Notes

Ascendancy order is Gathering Winds, then Called Shots, then Projectile Proximity Specialization with Far Shot, and finally Endless Munitions. Called Shots is the quality-of-life pick — socketed marks apply automatically every few shots, so Freezing Mark, Mark of the Siphoning, and Charge Mark all stay up during normal mapping without manual casting. On bosses, mark the target first, then alternate Lightning Arrow and Lightning Rod to stack damage. The Rhoa mount is utility and safety only; the damage comes from positioning and the mark uptime.
