Overview

This Monk build turns Oil Barrage into a sustained, channelled stream of electrified oil. Oil Barrage shapeshifts the character into a Wyvern that spits oil; when Power Charges are available it consumes them to channel a long barrage instead of a single volley. The whole build is about keeping those charges flowing, and the Martial Artist’s Hollow Focus is what makes that easy.

Hollow Focus periodically summons ethereal bells around the character. Devour can be aimed at those bells as well as at corpses, and each bell eaten grants a Power Charge, so the build never has to wait for kills to refuel. With a charge up, Oil Barrage fires almost without limit. The Hit and Run support means it has to be used while moving, not while standing still. Rend adds a damage buff between barrages, and Pounce (a wolf-form leap) can replace plain movement to speed up clear.

It is a community-made build rather than a big streamer’s pick, so its key items should stay cheap early in the league. It pitches itself as a cheap league starter that can tank hits, deal heavy damage and avoid mana problems. The creator says it can reach tier 6 maps on self-found gear, and its single-target damage is strong enough to kill bosses without a carry.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Excellent single-target damage: bosses die solo, no carry needed
  • Mapping is also good because the barrage reaches enemies off screen
  • Cheap: a niche build, so its gear stays inexpensive
  • Tanky and free of mana problems once set up
  • Can switch in from a Twister or quarterstaff leveling setup the moment the key pieces are in place

Cons

  • Heavy visual effects: a weak or average PC may drop frames, so test it after the latest patches before committing
  • Without Hollow Focus and a Power Charge source the build barely works
  • Needs a few specific support gems and a strong body armour before it comes online
  • Must keep moving to channel because of Hit and Run

Key Skills

  • Oil Barrage: main skill; a Wyvern form that channels electrified oil while Power Charges last
  • Hollow Focus: Martial Artist skill that spawns bells to destroy for charges
  • Devour: eats corpses or Hollow Focus bells to generate Power Charges
  • Rend: periodic damage buff
  • Pounce: optional wolf-form leap for faster clear

Gear & Anointments

Weapon mod priority follows the build’s guide document: increased physical damage and flat physical damage come first, and other stats matter far less. A specific body armour is described as the piece that makes the setup very strong, and the switch to Oil Barrage is recommended once it and the required support gems are in hand. Twister gear is optional at endgame. Exact uniques and the full gem list are to be confirmed against the source video and its linked guide document.

For the campaign the creator offers two routes: a Twister leveling setup (stronger but harder to play) or a simpler Monk quarterstaff setup, which is slightly weaker but easier.

Endgame Notes

The video also runs through other league-start options. Twister is still meta and flexible, playable from Huntress, Ranger, Gemling or Monk, and likely to be nerfed next league. Druid has bear and spell-totem variants, the latter with heavy screen effects. Warrior totems are a niche fun pick. Mercenary Flame Blast has huge damage but slow, costly clear.
