Strategy
This is a from-scratch Grand Expedition guide updated for 0.5.5. The removal of the Aldur Saga logbook effect was a real nerf — previously it applied to every Grand Expedition in a logbook, now it only affects one — but the creator still considers Expedition the strongest farm in the game.
The core idea is simple: open logbooks with enough Island Rumours to generate multiple Grand Expeditions, pick the best remnant stone in each map, and route all the good runes onto that one stone before detonating it so every bonus stacks on a single explosion. In the recorded session, three fairly ordinary maps in under half an hour produced close to 100 div worth of loot, helped by a lucky 10-rune stone and an Aldur’s Legacy drop.
Atlas Tree & Setup
- Unlock: complete the Kingsmarch logbook questline from the NPCs to access Grand Expeditions.
- Logbooks: only open logbooks with at least 3–4 Island Rumours; one- or two-rumour logbooks mostly give normal maps. Trick: move the logbook in your inventory — if the listed rumours change, there are more than three hidden on it.
- Expedition tree: pick Desert (harder, more monster effect) or Forest (lineage supports), additional runic modifiers, +1 remnant, the 10% extra-stone node, and the more-items-per-modifier node. The 50%-kill explosion node is optional for speed.
- Atlas master: Jado (additional random mod on corrupted waystones, tablet modifier effect, exceptional items) or Doryani if you want an extra life for safety.
- Waystones: high monster effectiveness, then monster rarity and item rarity.
- Tablets: Irradiated tablets only — Expedition tablets can’t be used inside Grand Expeditions.
- Rune rerolls: buy the reroll item from the vendor (needs Verisium; unlock via the trade point) — ~20,000 Verisium lasts about 23 maps.
Investment & Returns
- Investment: mid — logbooks are cheap (dozens per divine); tablets and waystones range from budget to juiced
- Returns: high — ~100 div in about 30 minutes in the showcased session (lucky), still solid on average
- Scaling: juiced tablets with effectiveness + rarity, and the top-tier runes on the creator’s rune tier list
Step-by-step
- Finish the Kingsmarch logbook quests.
- Set the Expedition tree and choose Jado or Doryani.
- Buy logbooks and only open those with 3+ Island Rumours.
- Enter each Grand Expedition, scan every remnant stone, and identify the stone with the most rune slots.
- Reroll bad runes, collect the good ones along a short route, and stack them onto the best stone.
- Detonate the stacked stone last and loot.
Risks
- Aldur Saga’s removal means fewer high-slot stones than in 0.5
- Bad rune rolls can leave a map worth very little
- Desert biome and stacked modifiers raise difficulty — weaker builds should pick Forest/Doryani
- Showcased returns were luckier than average
