Strategy

This is a max-investment Abyss rare-farming strategy built around printing Omen of Light, Abyssal Echo and raw Divines in patch 0.5. The core idea is to spawn an enormous number of rare monsters per map — the more rares, the more Abyssal (Amanumu) monsters, and those are what drop the expensive omens. Testing reports roughly one Omen of Light every two maps, with each omen worth around 6–7 Divine, on top of a steady stream of Abyssal Echoes and rotvines.

It is important to understand that Omens scale with player rarity, map rarity and monster rarity — NOT with monster effectiveness. An Abyss monster only ever drops one omen regardless of how juiced it is, so the whole strategy optimises for rare-monster quantity rather than monster effect. This is also a very hard, very high-investment setup run on 200% Delirium, so it demands a strong build.

The 0.5.2 Jado (JO) change — now 0 to 40% increased effect of explosive tablet modifiers instead of the old 20%-chance-to-double — averages out to roughly the same overall power, so the strategy is unchanged in practice.

Atlas Tree & Setup

You want the FULL Atlas tree, the full Abyss tree, and the full Delirium tree completed — all the small +rare and pack-size nodes add up. Key choices: run Mountain biome (never Desert — its node merges multiple rares into one, which breaks Abyss), take Forest (the single best biome for rares), Increased Number of Rares, Rogue Exile nodes, and most importantly the Additional Rare Monsters node set to rank 3. On the Abyss tree take the Amanumu node, the Omens node and the Scattered Pits node. The waystone wants a 6–8 mod Tier 15 (Tier 16 only raises item level, not loot quantity); use Omen of Chaotic Effectiveness + Omen of Chaotic Quantity and corrupt your maps, aiming for ~90%+ combined monster and item rarity.

Investment & Returns

  • Investment: HIGH — multiple Abyss tablets, expensive +2-modifier tablets, Grand Mirror Delirium, and a build that can survive ~20-mod, 200% Delirium maps
  • Returns: HIGH — about one Omen of Light per two maps (~6–7 Div each) plus Abyssal Echoes, raw Divines and rotvines
  • Scaling: more rares = more Amanumu = more omens; city/Vaal-city maps roughly double loot via the extra-tablet node

Step-by-step

  1. Run Vaal Cities (they spawn next to Stone Citadels) — they enable a 4th tablet and the best layouts like Sun Temple, and unlock Forest for huge rare density.
  2. Use the city node so an additional tablet may be used; run 4 tablets total, at least 2 of them Abyss (the other 2 can be cheaper breach/delirium/etc.).
  3. Mandatory Abyss tablet mods: ‘increased effectiveness per closed pit + chance for foral pits + 2 map mods’ on one, and ‘+2 random modifiers + increased number of rares’ on another (they can’t combine, hence two Abyss tablets).
  4. As you travel citadel-to-citadel, run 3 Delirium tablets to spawn Grand Mirrors, then run those maps for ~20% Delirium fog (~40–50% more loot).
  5. Pull Amanumu (Amu) rares OUT of their dark cloud before killing them — killing inside the cloud only drops the worthless Omen of Leech; pulling out (or instant-killing on spawn) drops the valuable omens.
  6. Alternative Hilda master setup: one each of breach / irradiated / abyss / overseer tablet for 32% increased tablet effect — cheaper to set up and roughly equal in yield. Pick JO vs Hilda based on current tablet prices.

Risks

  • These maps are extremely hard (near 20 map mods on 200% Delirium) — you need a very strong, tanky build or you will die a lot
  • High up-front cost; good +2-modifier Abyss tablets are not cheap and may not fully self-sustain
  • Killing Amanumu rares inside their cloud wastes the omen entirely
  • Never run Desert biome — its node actively breaks the Abyss rare-spawn mechanic
