Strategy

This is a beginner-friendly Expedition farming guide. After speaking to Dannig at the ruins of King’s March, logbooks let you reveal sections of the ocean on the atlas. Ordinary ocean maps carry a small Expedition encounter, but the real targets are Grand Expeditions: long continuous dig sites packed with Verisium remnants and extra explosives. Completing the Grand Expedition quest line (Medved, Vorana, Uhtred, Olroth and then the Aberration) unlocks all Expedition atlas points.

Each remnant’s rune slots set how many waves of empowered monsters spawn and how good the reward is. Power runes (purple or gold) upgrade the other modifiers for harder monsters and better loot, and gold-outlined runes transfer their modifier to every following remnant. In a Grand Expedition with 10 to 15 remnants, those transfers stack until the final monsters are close to pinnacle difficulty, so controlling difficulty is the main skill.

Atlas Tree & Setup

  • Steady Development: extra remnant (preferred) or explosive
  • Strategic Advantage: the explosive option that waits for 50% of monsters before continuing
  • Expanding Territory: 25% chance for active encounters while revealing logbooks; 10% extra remnant while running Grand Expeditions
  • Double or Nothing (the key node): option two (no transfers) for league start or weaker builds; option three for normal transfers; option one (25% chance for extra modifiers) for strong late-game builds, where Headhunter shines
  • Calculated Investment: option one for best loot, two for experience, three as a middle ground
  • Cultivate the Sea: desert (monster effectiveness) or mountain (more tablets, good on a budget) for Grand Expeditions; forest with the lineage gem atlas node for boss maps
  • Tablets: Grand Expeditions only take irradiated tablets; prioritise rare monsters, monster effectiveness, item rarity and monster rarity
  • Atlas master: Jado with Eastern Knowledge, Partial Translations and Unexpected Missions, plus exceptional items or lineage gems

Investment & Returns

  • Investment: low; works from league start with the no-transfer option
  • Returns: mid to high, rising with juice; top remnant rewards include Divine Orbs, permanent buffs and even a Mirror of Kalandra
  • Boss maps for Uhtred and Olroth (forced with their saga in your inventory) take one to two minutes and can drop valuable lineage gems; Uhtred can drop the quest item for the Runeseeker’s Call wand

Step-by-step

  1. Reveal ocean areas with logbooks and use island rumours (a community cheat sheet helps) to find Grand Expeditions and unique maps
  2. Run Grand Expeditions with three irradiated tablets
  3. Prioritise transferring the gold Opulent rune, then purple power runes; Rebirth is the only blue rune worth caring about
  4. Make your last explosive hit the biggest remnant
  5. Reroll small 3 to 4 slot remnants with Liquid Verisium if they do not carry a modifier you want
  6. On travel maps, speed through with irradiated or Delirium tablets

Risks

  • Stacked transfers can make the last monsters deadly; pick Double or Nothing to match your build
  • The Oath rune forces you to kill all rare monster minions, which is tough on some builds
  • Chasing the perfect explosive layout wastes time
  • Liquid Verisium rerolls are final
