Strategy

Grand Expeditions are the big standalone Expedition maps that open up when you sail the Atlas sea with Expedition logbooks. This guide covers two ways to farm them in Forbidden Rites. The first is a raw-currency setup: you stack Verisium remnants with strong runes, push rare-monster density as high as it goes, and let the explosion chain turn every remnant into a loot pile. On a good map the creator reports roughly 20 Divine Orbs even with average runes, and 40–60 Divine when the runes line up. Opulent runes are the jackpot.

The second setup is for weaker characters. Instead of chasing raw currency from very dangerous remnant monsters, it farms Expedition tablets, which sell steadily (about 2 Chaos each). A single Grand Expedition map can drop 40–60 of them. Tablets are in demand because the strongbox/wisp farming meta buys the perfect rolls, and a jackpot tablet (two buried strongboxes, extra spirit, two random map mods) can sell for around 90–100 Divine.

Compared with Expedition encounters inside regular maps, Grand Expeditions are simpler to set up: no 200% Delirium maps and no Wildwood wisps. In-map encounters can still pay more on average, but Grand Expeditions roll more remnants overall, so your odds of hitting a remnant with a Mirror of Kalandra or other top-tier drop are higher.

Atlas Tree & Setup

Setup 1 — raw currency (strong builds)

  • Master: Jado, with the extra map modifier and the node that raises the chance of Verisium remnants from tablets, plus more Exceptional items found.
  • Maps: tier 16 so the Exceptional bases drop at item level 82 (they are worth a lot right now). Look for monster rarity to spawn more rares; pack size does nothing here. Prefer maps with 6+ mods if your build can handle them.
  • Tablets: three Irradiated tablets. The must-have mod is two additional random map modifiers. Good extras are increased monster effectiveness, more rare monsters and item rarity. Perfect tablets cost a lot, so aim for at least three useful mods.
  • Main Atlas: take every monster-effectiveness node, including the one that gives rare packs a 15% chance of an extra rare monster.
  • Expedition Atlas: prioritise item-quantity nodes. When you open the sea, read the rumours and take the Star Drinker encounters (Origin of the Fall, Last of the Fall, End of the Circle).
  • Unique maps: Fallen Skies is the standout because it gives the perfect flux (20+ Divine). With an Irradiated Visions of Paradise unique tablet you can run it twice. The creator calls this a bug that still works this league.

Setup 2 — tablet farm (weak builds)

  • Expedition Atlas: pick the mountain path; the rest of the nodes are the first option in each row.
  • Main Atlas: more tablets found from the mountain mastery.
  • Maps: tier 15 with monster rarity so more rares drop tablets.
  • Tablets: two additional random map modifiers plus increased waystone quantity.
  • Master: Hilda, with more rare monsters, the extra-monster-modifier chance and +20% rare Expedition monsters (8% tablet effect). It’s weaker than Jado, but nothing better is left to take.

Investment & Returns

  • Investment: high for setup 1 (T16 6-mod maps, Irradiated tablets, a well-geared build); low for setup 2
  • Returns: about 20 Divine per map on an average setup 1 run, 40–60 Divine on a strong one; setup 2 gives 40–60 tablets per map at about 2 Chaos each, plus the odd jackpot tablet
  • Scaling: better runes (Opulent, purple tiers) and more rare monsters make up most of the value

Step-by-step

  1. Check the Grand Expedition map’s mods. The best is Verisium remnants have at least 7–9 rune slots, then duplicated runic monsters and more explosives.
  2. Skip bad layouts. Avoid Slave Galley (narrow corridors) unless its mods are excellent.
  3. Walk the map first and inspect every remnant. Reroll weak ones and any remnant with 5 or fewer runes. Keep those with 6+.
  4. Go back to the explosives and plan the chain so it reaches the strongest remnants. Pick up an Opulent rune as early as you can.
  5. Stack as many purple-tier runes as possible, then detonate the strong remnants at the end of the chain.
  6. On setup 2, clear the rares for tablets and sell them in bulk, or roll a few hoping for a jackpot.

Risks

  • Stacked remnants spawn very tough monsters with lots of ground effects and explosions, and some can be nearly unkillable. Setup 1 needs a well-invested build and careful spacing.
  • Perfect Irradiated tablets and T16 6-mod maps are expensive, so a run with bad runes can lose money.
  • The Fallen Skies double use relies on a bug that could be fixed at any time.
  • Tablet prices follow the strongbox/wisp meta and can drop if that meta changes.
