Strategy
Grand Expeditions are argued to be the single best currency farm in PoE 2 0.5 — a run of buffs across the league has pushed them head and shoulders above other mechanics. The plan is to run Grand Expeditions in a dense section of the Atlas (the ocean region works well), zipping between the maps that carry the Grand Expedition marker while doing regular expeditions and a favourite side mechanic (Breach is a great in-between) in the maps between them.
The whole point is that Grand Expeditions are the most rewarding content in the game if juiced correctly, and the most time-consuming and risky if juiced wrong. Rewards come from raw currency, high-value exceptional bases, runes, and rare drops like Alder’s Legacy and Alder Saga from Verisium Remnants. Crucially, this was demonstrated on a zero-item-rarity character — any rarity at all only improves it. The mark of success is divine-per-hour, not divines-per-map: a 20-div expedition that takes 25 minutes is worse than one that takes 10.
Atlas Tree & Setup
On maps, roll toward 8-mod maps chasing the two best mods by far — monster effectiveness and item rarity — using chaotic-quantity omens to shed near-worthless pack-size mods. Only Regular/Radiated tablets work in Grand Expeditions; want effectiveness and rarity prefixes, with additional-random-modifier suffixes as an optional premium. For Atlas passives run Eastern Knowledge (10% chance to re-roll Verisium Remnants and keep the rarest outcome — where most of the currency comes from), Partial Translations (increased tablet-mod effect), Keen Appraisal, and the +1 area-level node. Specifics to confirm against the source video.
Investment & Returns
- Investment: mid — you spend on rolling clean 8-mod maps and on effectiveness/rarity tablets; premium 3-mod tablets can run 20+ divs (often better to sell than run).
- Returns: high — routinely 20+ divs per well-run expedition; described as the best currency source in the game.
- Scaling: effectiveness and rarity stacking plus Verisium Remnant re-rolls; Visions of Paradise on Moor of Fallen Skies can double an Alder Saga (~6 divs in for ~41 out).
Step-by-step
- Pick a dense Atlas region and route between Grand Expedition-marked maps, doing regular expeditions/Breach in the maps between.
- Roll your maps to 8 mods, keeping monster effectiveness and item rarity; use chaotic-quantity omens to remove pack size.
- Slot Regular/Radiated tablets with effectiveness + rarity prefixes.
- Take the Eastern Knowledge / Partial Translations / Keen Appraisal / +1 area-level Atlas passives.
- Run the Grand Expedition, prioritising Verisium Remnant value (that’s the bulk of the profit).
- Reserve Visions of Paradise for Moor of Fallen Skies to double the guaranteed Alder Saga.
Risks
- Over-juicing the wrong way makes runs slow and risky — measure divine-per-hour, not per-map.
- Some Verisium Remnant outcomes force a choice (e.g. ~300-div Alder’s Legacy vs a permanent buff like +10 spirit) — read before you commit.
- Premium tablets/maps can cost more than they return; selling is often the better play.
- Reward values swing with the market and with reset-event timing.
