Strategy

The 0.5.4 patch gave Expedition its own Atlas passive tree, and this guide covers both how to set that tree up for profit and — crucially — how to survive the encounters, which are some of the most lethal in the game. The headline new tool is Liquid Veridian: convert 600 Veridian into 1 Liquid Veridian at Pharaoh to reroll a remnant encounter. In a regular Expedition it starts immediately; in a Grand Expedition the rerolled encounter sits and waits, so you get a free look and can decide whether to run it. Effectively you now get two chances at a good remnant, and the creator pulled multiple Alder Sagas just from lucky rerolls.

Expedition points for the new tree come from completing the Grand Expedition quest line at the Ruins of Kingsmarch (defeating the Expedition bosses). If you have already cleared those, you likely have all 24 points unlocked for free the moment you log in.

Atlas Tree & Setup

Good defaults: take the extra remnant (more remnants = more loot; skip the extra-explosive node), the logbook-frequency path, and the speed/clear node (kill 50% to advance, or the −20% remnant-life variant if you’d rather kill faster). The big decision node is the 25% chance for rusted remnants to count as affected by a Power rune — it upgrades all runic modifiers for far better rewards but makes remnants much harder; if you struggle, take the flat 1% quantity per runic modifier instead for consistent, safer value. Up the tree, Grand Expeditions +1 area level is a massive loot buff. The add-additional-runic-modifier node boosts loot via the chaining gold windows, but you can disable chaining if remnants are overwhelming you. Pick Desert biome for monster effectiveness and quantity.

Tablets: post-patch, monster rarity finally works on Grand Expedition encounters (it was bugged before) and now genuinely increases the number of rares — and more rares means more loot. Run monster rarity + effectiveness + map item-rarity; the creator favours monster rarity slightly over effectiveness. Avoid “additional random modifiers” tablets — they make maps brutally hard and can brick them; sell those for 10–15 Div instead. Atlas master: Jato for the remnant reroll-keeping-best, and Doryani (evolutionary pressure, disengage safeties, improved calibration, careful procurement) for the travel maps; take the extra revive if you die a lot.

Investment & Returns

  • Investment: mid — radiated tablets (monster rarity / effectiveness) plus Liquid Veridian for rerolls; no Alder-Saga requirement to start.
  • Returns: high — plenty of Divines per session, scaling with rares and area level.
  • Scaling: Power-rune upgrades and +1 area level multiply rewards but raise the survival bar.

Step-by-step

  1. Clear the Grand Expedition quest line at Ruins of Kingsmarch to unlock the 24 Atlas points (free if already done).
  2. Set the tree: extra remnant, speed node, Power-rune-or-quantity choice, +1 area level, Desert biome.
  3. Run monster-rarity + effectiveness radiated tablets; sell any additional-random-modifier tablets.
  4. Use Liquid Veridian (600 Veridian → 1) to reroll bad remnants — in Grand Expeditions you get a free preview before committing.
  5. Survive: carry a freeze-removal charm, cap cold res, and ideally get chill immunity (crystallised immunities) — these encounters are cold-heavy and freeze kills fast.
  6. Run a ranged build, circle the remnant at distance (its AoE spawns in a ring around it), and use Temporal Chains / a pacify support to slow packs.

Risks

  • Encounters are cold-damage heavy with constant chill, chilled ground, and freezing moonbeam waves — no freeze charm means quick deaths.
  • Standing too close to a remnant gets you surrounded by its ringed AoE spawns; melee/no-mobility builds suffer most.
  • The Power-rune upgrade node and additional-modifier effects can spike remnant difficulty far beyond the base loot value.
