Strategy

Trial of Chaos is one of the most accessible stable-income farms in patch 0.5 because it needs no atlas setup, no tablets, and no expensive build to run. The entire loop is built around buying cheap Inscribed Ultimatums off trade and running them to completion — each finished trial hands you a guaranteed fragment worth more than four Divine Orbs, so the profit floor is locked in before any drops are even considered.

This is the farm to reach for when tablet prices climb and mechanics like Expedition get harder, or when you simply want a low-stress run between heavier strategies. Because almost any character clears an ultimatum at roughly the same pace, even modestly geared builds earn close to the same return as fully invested ones — the bottleneck is the ultimatum’s fixed wave structure, not your DPS.

Atlas Tree & Setup

No atlas tree, tablets, or map juicing is required. Buy Inscribed Ultimatums on trade filtered to area level ~80 with item level ~80, configured for 10 trials so every reward tier can roll. They go for roughly 5–6 Exalted each. The trial mode (victorious / deadly / etc.) does not matter for profit — just take whatever is cheapest and run them back to back. Skip the optional currency-sacrifice slots unless something genuinely valuable like Chaos Orbs is offered.

Investment & Returns

Investment: low — ~5–6 Exalted per ultimatum, no setup, runs on any character.
Returns: ~18 Divine/hr from guaranteed fragments alone (each completed trial yields a fate fragment worth 4–4.7 Div), scaling to 25+ Div/hr once Soul Cores are counted.
A fast build finishes one inscribed ultimatum in ~12–13 minutes, so roughly 4–4.5 per hour.

Step-by-step

Buy Inscribed Ultimatums (area level ~80, item level ~80, 10 trials) at ~5–6 Exalted each.
Run each trial to the end — pick safety buffs like “monsters cannot be slowed,” ignore the rare item rewards since you can’t choose them, and prioritise speed.
Bank the guaranteed fate fragment from every completed run (Coveted / Deadly / Victorious Fate, each ~4–4.7 Div).
Collect Soul Cores that drop along the way — sell the valuable ones (Soul Core of Cavop ~6 Div, of Puhuarte ~2 Div, of Tacati ~3:1), and reforge the junk cores in pairs at the reforging bench for a chance at better ones.
Always check both price directions when listing cores — a core listed 29 Exalted one way can be 85:1 the other; don’t underprice.
Optional boss: combine three fate fragments to fight the boss for a ~2% Adorned jewel drop — see Risks before committing.

Risks

The boss-for-Adorned gamble is not recommended: at ~14 Div per entry and a ~2% Adorned drop, 100 runs cost ~1,400 Div and you may dry-streak past 200 runs with nothing. Only chase it if you specifically want a high-variance gamble.
Fragment and Adorned prices are demand-driven; the farm’s value rests on those staying high (they have been trending up, but a crash would cut returns).
Running ultimatums back to back is repetitive — best used as a chill filler between other farms rather than an all-day grind.
