Strategy
This is a beginner’s guide to making currency by trading and flipping items rather than farming a single map mechanic. The core skill it teaches is developing an “eye” for value: learning which prefixes and suffixes make an item worth listing, so you can pick valuable rares off the ground, appraise them, and sell them — or buy strong bases cheap and craft them into divine-tier gear.
It works especially well early in a league, when currency like augmentation orbs and exalts hold the most value before inflation sets in. The guide stresses that the simplest, most reliable money comes from recognizing good modifiers on dropped items and appraising them correctly — the advanced crafting flips come later once you have game knowledge.
Atlas Tree & Setup
This is a trading/crafting workflow rather than an Atlas farming strategy, so there’s no dedicated tree. The two item sources are: (1) rares you pick up in high-tier maps, and (2) good bases bought cheaply from the NPC shop or the marketplace. Increased item rarity on your gear helps by improving both the loot you find to sell and the currency you pick up.
Investment & Returns
- Investment: low — you start by selling items you already find; the example craft used ~20 exalted orbs to make a divine-tier weapon.
- Returns: mid — ground-loot flips are small but steady (a few augments here, an exalt there); a single lucky base or successful craft can sell for 3–5 divines. Early-league timing multiplies returns before inflation.
Step-by-step
- Learn the best prefixes/suffixes per slot. For gloves, prefixes like max life, added physical damage to attacks, increased armour/ES, and added elemental damage; suffixes like +2 to melee skills, increased rarity, crit damage bonus, resistances, and attack speed.
- Identify dropped rares and scan for those modifiers — the more high-value mods, the more valuable the item.
- Appraise correctly: in the market search, strip the maximum values and keep only the minimum stats (or go purely on DPS for weapons) to see the real comparable price.
- Watch the NPC shop for strong base modifiers (e.g. ~119% increased physical damage on a quarterstaff) and craft them up with essences and desecration into a divine-tier item.
- List items at competitive prices; good items sell within minutes early in a league.
Risks
- Crafting flips require real game knowledge and carry RNG — the cheap, reliable money is appraising ground loot, not gambling crafts.
- Item values drop as the league inflates, so early currency is worth more — act sooner rather than later.
- Mispricing (forgetting to strip max-roll filters) leads to listing items far above or below market.
